I picked up this book because of the travel books on offer it had the most information on the particular town I would be visiting on a study placement, Darmstadt in South Hessen. I wasn't sure how much more of Germany I would get to see but I invested in a travel book anyway. I'm glad I did, it's very detailed, very easy to read and includes a number of maps and even a few colour photos. It also includes a bit of history but doesn't force dry statistics on the reader. The general information about living in or visiting Germany was also useful.
My only critisism is that it's neither pocket size or lightweight, but the book's vast detail makes up for that in my opinion.

This Rough Guide is disappointing and doesn't give as good information and coverage as the other Rough Guides I have used. Maybe is is trying to cover too large a country in one go.

Rough Guide lives up to its usual high standards of directness and honesty with this comprehensive guide to Germany - including many smaller cities & towns ignored in other guidebook series.

Excellent overview, missing vital details
I took this Rough Guide with me when I spent 3 months in the Bavarian Alps and Konstanz in summer 2007. As an overview it is invaluable, and the section on Munich is very good. Read more

Liek all rough guides this is excellent, but there is not enough about the areas off the beaten tourist track, for example the Saarland. Read more
