5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely add-on of rural German route 18 Oct 2003
By Jay M VINE VOICE
This add-on, the first by German Railroads, includes the route from Finnentrop - Olpe - Betzdorf, and the side route, Olpe - Dieringhausen. The added bonus to this add-on is that it is based in the 1970's. This means that part of the route featured here is no longer in use, the part from Olpe to Dieringhausen. You can experience travelling over tracks long since out of commission and maybe no longer in existance.
The first thing I need to say is to make sure your PC has at least 128MB of RAM. This add-on has some of the best graphics of any train add-on so that means that it has fairly heavy usage on the RAM.
But if you do have enough RAM, or maybe are thinking of getting more, you will be well rewarded with this add-on. The graphics as I said are simply breathtaking. The route is fairly subtantial and the rolling stock (locomotives and passenger, goods wagons) are wonderfully designed and there are plenty of them included.
This is a history based add-on. The whole thing is set in the 1970's, so this reflects itself in some of the older signalling methods at different stations, whereas the newer stations have just installed the newer, light-based signals. A nice touch! You can drive locomotives long since out of service and pass through quaint villages, maybe now totally overly-developed.
There are 32 (yes, count them!) activities included. This makes this add-on simply too difficult not have. They range in time scales to complete, and range from passenger based to goods based drives.
Get this, and German Railroads Volume 2, as soon as you can!
