Product Description

Synopsis

The first edition of this now classic work truly broke new ground. It was the first reference work supported by full photographic evidence to cover in detail every aspect of the military uniforms, insignia and accoutrements of the German Army during the Third Reich. Now updated with extra notes and corrections, it remains the standard work on the subject. There are over 460 illustrations that cover all types of uniform dress from helmet to footwear. Included are badges and insignia of rank, arm of service colours and insignia, trade as well as specialist and qualification badges.

4.0 out of 5 stars German Army Uniforms and Insignia1933-1945, 18 Jun 2007

(REAL NAME)
This book is packed full of examples of the typical equipment, rank and badge insignia and uniforms from 1933 to 1945. It contains 375 black and white photographs whit-in 212 pages of information in a hardback binding. The colour section includes side arm knots, shoulder straps & collar patches for NCO's and other ranks, officers and generals. There is also a rather interesting section on how the "Zeltbahn" (a triangular cape or poncho also used as a shelter) was worn.

Very useful and informative for any student of this era.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Specialist Book, 6 April 2002

You have to really enjoy this subject to find value in this book. Overall the author did a good job, although I would have liked to have more background on some of the topics. I have found the book to be a good guide while visiting WW 2 museums that have uniform collections.

Very thorough, very detailed, plenty of pictures. Indispensible if you are more than casually interested in the subject.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dated but Credible, 24 Dec 2011

This review is from: German Army Uniforms and Insignia 1933-1945 (Paperback)
This book was published 40 years ago. There are only a few color sections, such as bayonet knots, should patches and a couple of camouflage patterns. The rest are all black and white photos with some line drawings. There is solid information here and you will find some interesting photographs. I still give it four stars despite its lack of color pictures of uniforms and equipment. The book is that good.
