Works the same as every other compass however is more compact than most. It's a little expensive for what it is but if your in to your bear grylls equipment then go for it. Had no issues with it working so far

Bit expensive for what it is, but I liked the fact that I could tie it to the front strap of my rucksack and have a peek whenever I felt the need to know whether I was in fact going in the right direction.

I purchased one of these & I must admit I returned it unopened as I thought it was faulty,
as constantly pointed North.
But after noticing my other compass, (different brand) that I know works,
when I put it inside an airtight sealed bag, it doesn't work,
Very Strange!

I am inclined to believe my judgement was wrong, as I didn't open this item
& I am about to reorder & open this one.
Something to Bear Grylls in mind ha-ha, take out of the packaging for correct reading!

This product was a joke. After four days half of the face plate broke off and sunk to bottom of the compass. Funny thing is I'm a landsurveyor and use a high quality compass.but wanted a smaller one I could pocket and access quickly, instead I got a toy.u probably don't need a compass to figure out where Bear can put THIS product.

Son loves it 1 July 2013

We gave this to our son for his birthday, and he loves it. He's a big Bear Grylls fan, so that was an added bonus. He took the compass to a family trip to Chicago, and we all thought, "Isn't that cute?" But then when we got lost walking around, we were glad we had it! So, if you were wondering, yes, it works.

Terrible compass. Don't waste your time or money. Gets stuck even on flat surfaces. Simply a toy. Don't count on it if you truly need a compass.

Agreed, great compact compass. 5 Jun. 2013

The compass is a little bigger than the Compact Torch light that it was based off of. Though it feels good in your hand and is quite accurate. It lashes onto the sternum strap of my Dakine Heli Pack 11L off to the left side perfectly. It hangs there about the same height as the zipper for the hydration sleeve. Looks good mounted on the pack too!

A good buy for anyone looking to just have a compass on them while in the backcountry.

The compass I recieved pointed DUE WEST, instead of north...I had to return it, and I'll order another one another time.
