Gerber entrenches its way to my heart!! 13 April 2012

This E-Tool is AWESOME!! I have used e-tools many times, and they usually break or bend if you look at them wrong. This baby is one tuff puppy! It chews thru hard clay, you can step down and actually get good leverage, without worrying it will break. Folds up nicely, the optional sheath is also great. Good quality, well engineered! Made for actually using, this tool is one all outdoors enthusiasts will love! A must have tool for the next Zombie apocalypse!!

Great Gerber Entrenching Tool 29 Jan. 2010
By Tradecraft - Published on Amazon.com
I like the Gerber 22-01945 Entrenching Tool with Pick and Serrated Blade. It is a piece of gear that is well made, solid, strong and dependable. It folds down very small and fits well in the Gerber 22-00026 E-Tool Plastic Sheath which is a must have compliment to this tool. The locking collar is very secure and effective. It is definitely functional, tough, and easy to attach to a backpack for carrying. You won't go wrong with this Gerber.

An E-Tool With Bite 5 Jun. 2013

I needed to replace an old, Coghlan's e-tool that long since broke. I decided that I wanted a sturdy e-tool that will not fail in the field.

I did some research and discovered that Gerber makes an e-tool that is issued to the Marine Corp. I figured that they would make a good civilian e-tool.

I was right.

This e-tool is very durable. I took it out to a campsite that me and friend were clearing out and this tool did a fine job. It moved dirt/rocks very well, the spike chopped through roots with ease, and the serrated edge cut through small saplings and branches as well as my small handsaw.

When folded, this e-tool has a small profile (slightly larger than the size of the spade).

About the only downsides is that it is a bit on the heavy side (but that's due to using a carbon steel spade) and does not come with a sheath/pouch. Although, this pouch fits it perfectly:

I would recommend this e-tool for anyone who needs a serious digging tool that can do more than just entrench.

Needs a Method to lock open the blade 30 Oct. 2014
By Happy Billmore - Published on Amazon.com

While it is small, compact, and generally seemed well made, I returned it because the shovel did not have any type of locking (or even a "slow down") mechanism to prevent it from flying open/closed. As a result, I would not feel safe using it for fear that it would not stay open while I used it.

Note: While a lock would have been ideal, I would have settled for a tight, friction hold on the blade. Unfortunately, it had neither.

heavy 11 Feb. 2012

Very heavy, definitely NOT the 4.6 ounces as was listed. It's more like 4.6 pounds, overall it's a well made heavy duty entrenching tool. You can always count on Gerber for quality tools.
