In pictures, perhaps not as "visually desirable" as the near identical tool count Leatherman Skeletool. Perhaps I didn't immediately like the blunt ended knife but coming round to recognising the safety aspect. However, having had my hands on both, the Crucial wins hands down for the following reasons. Secondly shorter and rounder edged, if not quite as slim. Thirdly fixed screwdriver blades which will still be there when the competition's are lost.

Oh I missed the most important, FIRSTLY a more intuitive bottle opener action.

Some reviews find the pliers a tad flimsy but IMHO they are remarkably sturdy and the anvil type cutters effective.

Don't like the clip, which curiously Gerber list as the first key feature. Will come off just as soon as I find a small enough Torx driver. Could it be improved? I'd like a can opener. Until then perhaps I'll also carry the smallest Swiss Army knife which has scissors and a can opener. Or just a can opener on my key ring.

Later edit. The knife blade is not UK legal carry (because it locks), though it is blunt ended enough that a challenge might be excused.

Please Gerber and Leatherman can we have decent multi-tools with UK legal carry blades.

Later later edit. Now carrying a Leatherman Juice S2 instead because it has a UK legal carry blade, scissors and a can opener. Almost perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, robust multi tool 30 July 2013

I use this tool for work, it has a small carabiner which makes sure it doesn't fall out of your pocket yet still leaves it easy enough to unclip.

The knife blade, which I use mostly out of all the tools, is still sharp 12 months later and I went for this mutil-tool over others because its' blade is a safer shape, without the fully pointed end.

It opens and closes quite easily, I can't really find anything bad about this item.

3.0 out of 5 stars Contains most of what you need 31 Dec 2010

For the same size one could probably have bought a simple victorinox knife or something similar an actually get a larger selection of tools. However if you also want the pliers then this is probably one of the best options out there. Though, the plier handles do feel a bit flimsy at times.

Gucci piece of kit. Issued when on tour to Afghan but if you're not lucky enough to go such as myself its rather cheap and definitely worth buying out of you're own pocket.
It's accompanied me on every exercise I've been on in the last few months and been truly tried and tested. I've had no dramas with it.
It's a sturdy and compact design. Cannot fault.

A cracking piece of kit, just a shame that the blade isn't made of a better steel (hence the 4stars)

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy EDC 2 Jun 2014

Colour wasn't as described more of brown than grey. Tools are all good, knife especially, although the flat head driver twists within the tool so it's hard to get any stubborn screws out. Bottle opener/ clip is pretty pointless as you can open a bottle on anything with a bit of skill and the tool has a clip on its side. It's really handy that the tools lock in place although mature folks who have used it tend to not understand how to fold everything away. All in its a good value little EDC really handy for me as I split my time between office and workshop so I always have what I need for small tasks on me

5.0 out of 5 stars GERBER CRUCIAL SOME THOUGHTS! 29 Mar 2014

The name says it all Crucial. You get the crucial tools: the knife blade, phillips head screwdriver and flat head scredriver all lock which is great from a safety point of view. The karb/bottle opener doesnt but thus allows you to hook it onto a belt with the clip on the rear and use the karb to hook through belt loops on trousers and then close the karb. Great you aint ever going to lose it! Other reviewers have mentioned a lack of confidence with the pliers. Compared to other multi tools the pliers are smaller and there does seem more lateral movement with them compared to others but cant say I have had an issue using them. The blade has a plastic thumb stud which is a lot easier to open one handed than a hole in the blade like on my Leatherman Sidekick. It is a good thick stout blade which should allow prying with it. Its much thicker than the blade on a Swiss army knife or my Sidekick about double the thickness to it. Its a blunted tip so you wont be stabbing anything which again is safer when your using it. I really like it and especially with the price.

Drawbacks 1. Its quite light because it doesnt have many tools lack of tools maybe a disadvantage realy wish it had a can opener on it ! But a small swiss army knife would take up the slack. 2.The metal although stainless steel it aint the same as on a swiss army knife I got rust on it from when I left it to dry after washing it with the dishes after having used it to peel oranges. That would not happen with ones swiss army knife. My understanding is how shiny the stainless steel is the greater the rust resistance, though a chemist Im not. You just need to keep an eye on it, dry it off if it gets wet dont let it stand in water like I did. Was not a problem bit of steel wool but would not have happened with other tools I pocess.
I hope this helps anyone looking to get it. Hopefully like me you will be vary happy with it.
