Gerald Hornsby was born in leafy Solihull, England, and spent a good deal of his life running away from writing, instead pursuing a career in engineering. However, in his late 40s, he had run out of excuses not to write, so began a hobby which turned into a part-time obsession.
His first attempts at writing short stories were poor, and attempts to improve his literary fiction writing resulted in yet more poor work. Only when he made the transition into genre fiction did he actually understand where his passion lay. He enjoyed frightening his readers, making them think, and making them worry about his characters.
