Volume II of the Biography of Georgios Grivas Digenis (in Greek) gives an account of the EOKA struggle against the British rule in Cyprus and for Enosis, union with Greece. While archbishop Makarios was the ethnarch and the political leader of the Cypriots, that constitute the 80% majority of the island's population, Grivas was the military leader of the armed campaign that was launched by explosions in all major cities of the island on 1st April 1955. Thereafter Grivas, under cover of the pseudo name Digenis, a mythical Byzantine hero, formed and led guerrilla groups in the mountains. After four years of unrest Cyprus finally was granted independence. This volume (1950 - 1959) gives an account of Grivas' campaign, his plans, his movements, his hideouts and his closest associates. It reveals detail of his methods and leadership in guerrilla warfare.
