5.0 out of 5 stars a special book, 19 Jan 2002
By "aszlan" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Georgian Language and Culture: a Continuing Course (Paperback)
An amazing book that fills many of the gaps when learning a less mainstream language. Any learner of a language such as Georgian will find themselves in the position of materials being expensive, hard-to-come-by, poor quality or non-existent. Also the student will face a lack of genuine source materials written in the language to practice with and to develop vocabulary and style. The book includes sections on literature and poetry which put the student in the position of being able to see the language at work, as well as an extensive lexicon and dialogues written by a native speaker. The book is NOT, however, for the complete beginner as the title suggests, but the culture sections give enough material (fully translated) for this to be a precious resource for anyone serious interested in the subject matter. Truly a special book that goes a huge way to filling a gap in available resources and a joy to read. Heavy though ......

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for continuing your study of Georgian!, 17 April 2006
By Emily M. Hunter "grad student" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Georgian Language and Culture: a Continuing Course (Paperback)
This book is a wonderful resource for students beyond the beginner level. It has a good review of grammar points, especially the notoriously difficult verbs. The best part of the book, in my opinion, is that it gives a wide range of examples from Georgian literature in Georgian. It is difficult to find many of these even in translation in the US, much less the original text. Obviously the authors both know the language well and love Georgia and its culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars In Georgian font, 2 Jan 2004
By Nokha "Nokha" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Georgian Language and Culture: a Continuing Course (Paperback)
The font is a little small and it is expensive but it is good.
This book has dialouges, poetry and idioms. It is a good Idea for anyone that is trying to learn the language or having a hard time reading the script.
When I studied Russian I took a break and focused on Serbian (also in cyrillic) using a dictionary. After a few weeks I could read cyrillic with no problem and it really helped for Russian.
This book has done the same thing along with a steady flow of Adjara Tv (this is an example of educational tv) has made Georgian much easier for me.
Maybe your local library has a copy of this book, if so, take a look at it. Learning a language can be difficult but don't give up because it is worth the time and money.
