Gorgeous Picture Book for Children Young and Old 17 Jan. 2013

People of all ages will love the story of Georgia O'Keefe's working vacation to Hawaii in 1938. The text is simple yet draws you in to a fascinating, yet little known, story about the famous artist and the exotic islands that changed her life and influenced her work. The illustrations are beautiful and painted in a style similar to O'Keefe's. I highly recommend this book.

A strong and magical book, with beautiful illustrations, particularly the flowers. It is a powerful story of Georgia O'Keefe's artistic integrity in the face of corporate (Dole) demands

A simple book if you are studyingO'Keefe, but it covers a less known part of her life. This is a good one to add to your collection of art for children. I reccomend Georgia's Bones as well.

My first grader and I studied Georgia O'Keeffe before we took a trip to Hawaii and this was her favorite book. It's a nice story about being yourself and the pictures are beautiful. I wish the book reproduced at least one real painting, but we got other books for that.
Georgia in Hawaii - as beautiful as it's promise 22 Jan. 2013

This is a lovely homage to the great Georgia O'Keeffe, and tells an interesting story about artistic integrity. Georgia went to Hawaii at the request of the Pineapple company now known as Dole. They wanted her to paint pineapple - but the working relationship was not great, and Georgia painted everything else in Hawaii - everything except pineapples! It's an inspiring story.

Eventually, after her return to the mainland, she did paint pineapples - and the amazing body of work that came from her time in Hawaii is well worth the time Dole waited for their pineapple paintings!
