5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album 10 Jan 2013
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The music from Armenia is always something special. And this is a great example of it. An interesting and intruiging musical adventure from folk roots to piano composition back to folk instruments again. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo! 23 April 2012
Format:Audio CD
Since 1924 there have been many excellent recordings and concert performances based on the Gurdjieff - deHartmann music; though in my experience none other than The Gurdjieff Folk Instruments Ensemble have had the authenticity of the sources of the music Gurdjieff brought to us; with these arrangements and these instruments we are brought nearer to the sources of the Gurdjieff music, be it folk melodies, sufi songs, or Orthodox hymns.
To witness. like I had the opportunity on Friday the 20th in Stans, Switzerland, an audience of over 500 people in a Catholic Church, silently iistening for a couple of hours also shows that the right place to hear this music is a Church.
Let us hope that the Movements and Dances can follow!

It's not a simple question how accurate the Gurdjieff Folk Instruments Ensemble are the Gurdjieff / de Hartmann arrangements. The rich harmonies and rhythms they add are not present in the solo transcriptions produced by de Hartmann. But it certainly *sounds* like there's something special going on here! The good piano interpretations (e.g., Alain Kremski... don't even bother with Keith Jarrett) can sound rather lacking in atmosphere, so it's refreshing that The Gurdjieff Folk Instruments Ensemble here provide that atmosphere very amply. I would recommend anyone interested in the Gurdjieff / de Hartmann music to listen to both this recording and an Alain Kremski recording.
