Format: Paperback
This is a great opportunity to get three great crime novels for the price of one. If you like Crais' "Elvis Cole" novels and James Crumley's books then I am pretty sure that you will enjoy this. The characters are great and the plots involving. You might argue that the characters are a bit cliched, but "cool guys that have sort of fallen into the detective role, good with the ladies and with a relatively under control booze habit" is, I am sure, what many of us who read these books would secretly like to be. These characters have become a cliche 'cos we like reading stories about them! The characters from these books reappear in Pelecanos' other novels and if, like me, you've read all the Crais, Crumley, Burke, Ellroy novels out there then this is a great introduction to another great series for you.

With Elmore Leonard sadly departed, Pelecanos now reigns as America's best writer of detective fiction.

Format: Paperback
These novels aren't an awful lot like Robert Crais - Crais' Elvis Cole mysteries, while very entertaining, don't have the variety or the grit of Pelecanos' superb Nick Stefanos series, and in fact feel rather lightweight next to them. Pelecanos' prose has all of Chandler's unblinking clarity, and his DC streets are meaner than any Marlowe ever trod. "Down By The River Where The Dead Men Go" in particular is a black, wistful book about kinds of loss, that reminded me of Chandler's masterpiece "The Long Goodbye". Don't miss it.

Three Great Novels for One Low Price 2 Oct. 2012
By Scott E. High - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is an excellent way to pick up three relatively expensive books by George Pelecanos for one low price. It is the Nick Stefanos Trilogy and is 634 pages of Mr. Pelecanos at his finest. Stephen King refers to George as one of America's finest crime writers. Buy this book and find out why. You won't be disappointed.
