Product Description

Product Description

This is the first book in the George Grove series. It starts with three twelve year old boys in South London, a secret and an abandoned dragon's egg. The ordinary reality of the Inner City provides a cover for the boys, their friends and acquaintances as they are increasingly embroiled in a magical battle between ICE (Initiates in the Control of the Esoteric) and the Harbingers of DoOM (Destruction of Ordinary Magic). It all goes spectacularly and hilariously wrong when their parents, teachers and the police start to get involved and the dragon's not too happy either.
LJ Lawry takes the edges off reality and shifts them slightly, coaxing the reader to join the start of a fantastical, magical journey through London and beyond, into a realm of wild imagination and the birthplace of ideas.

More About the Author

LJ Lawry lived in South London before moving to a small village in Cornwall where she now lives a little more quietly with her family and a large number of cats. She started writing George Grove and the Dragon at the end of February 2011 and finished it in just six weeks. She then set up the George Grove Project and published the book herself, with some help from Amazon, to raise funds to support young people in her local community. All the proceeds of the first two books in the George Grove series in the first two years of publication were shared between local charities and organisations working with young people in Cornwall. LJ Lawry has completed the second book in the George Grove series, George Grove and the Wolf and the third, George Grove and the Unicorn. She has also written her first adult fiction book, Jane Austen and the Highway Woman. All her titles are available on Amazon as ebooks under the terms of the KDP select programme. LJ Lawry ceased to run The George Grove Project as a company in 2013 and now publishes under LJ Lawry Books as a sole trader. She continues to write and is currently working on several new titles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting! 16 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I began reading this book straight after finishing a hard hitting action packed thriller and wondered if the jump from that to the schoolboy japes of George Grove and the fantasy world might leave me wanting. I needn't have worried. Far from it! This is an absolutely delightful and clever story that held my attention and had me smiling from start to finish. The characters are interesting and somehow normal and peculiar at the same time. Situations and environments are described with great imagination. Some are out of this world!
I can't wait for the next 'term'

5.0 out of 5 stars George Grove and the Dragon 9 Aug 2011
By Angela
Format:Kindle Edition
Although I do not usually choose fantasy books, this novel contained enough reality to make the story work well. The humour mixed with the modern urban environmental setting and all the problems, trials and tribulations suffered by today's youth was well portrayed. The boys all suffered typical teenage embarrassment and anxiety at the hands of very differing parents and each coped with these situations in their own way with courage, wit and original thought. Everything ran along quite normally then every now and then something would happen which made one realise all was not what it seemed. This steady build up of mystery always cloaked in a wrapping of reality was original and very enjoyable. Characters were entertaining and amusing and I was at no time bored and felt all the time that I wanted to see around the next corner. "It was not what the whatnot meant to me it was what the whatnot meant..." Such little jems added to the enjoyment. I look forward to the next George Grove book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful 9 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I felt transported immediatly to another world, which was similar but quite different to my own. It also cleverly took me back to a much younger me which I felt was impressive, this was a place I felt at home, but in a sense unsettled. Like all good books it felt beliveable but wonderous and I wanted to be there!
The next instalment is out and its "George Grove and the Wolf", I've downloaded it and can't wait to get stuck in.
