Since its launch in 2001 the George Foreman grill has taken the UK by storm. Its phenomenal success has been due to its patented fat reducing design, ease of use, versatility and speed. The 14685 removable plates grill does everything you would expect from a George Foreman grill but with a little bit extra.
The George Foreman grill has become synonymous with healthy eating. The grill plates are specially designed to channel any excess fat and grease into a separate drip tray. What makes this even more impressive is that it is done without compromising on taste. The instant heat from the top and bottom cooking plates sears the food and locks in the flavours. The result is that you can cook all your favourite foods but in a healthier way without any extra effort.

Not only do you not need any extra effort, the George Foreman grill actually makes cooking a lot easier and quicker. By grilling from both the bottom and top simultaneously, food cooks over twice as
fast. As a guide chicken breasts, sausages and beef steaks need a little more than 10 minutes to cook. This makes the George grill a much faster but also more convenient cooking methods versus a conventional grill or oven. No long wait for your oven to heat up and no more dirty oven dishes and grill racks to deal with, just switch on your George Foreman grill and drop on any food you want to cook in it.

By any food we do mean ANY food. The grill can handle everything including vegetables, any meat or seafood (from fresh or frozen) and even snacks like toasted sandwiches and paninis. The George Foreman 14685 Removable Plates Grill comes with a little bit extra. All George Foreman grills have a special non stick coating making them easy to clean.     Fab update for previous George, which eventually bit the dust after being dropped for the umpteenth time. Decided to go for the removable plates, making it much easier to clean, as they go straight in dishwasher. Must say it it so much easier to clean these plates anyway (grooves not so large as old george) but removing them is much quicker! Shape of this george is better than old one too, overall big thumbs up!

    The grill is a treat to use and clean. I had the previous model which was a pain to clean. But this model has removable plates, which go straight in the dishwasher. To be honest they are much easier to maintain and clean. As alwasy grilling the food is a treat, the food is healthier and the large plates allows a good amount of food to be grilled.

    The drip tray is sufficient and works well. I liked the unit, so i thought I'd ring Salton Europe to find out about replacement plates and cost etc. So, I could purchase some extra plates. Anyway, the customer service was a joke. the first time i rang they said that the unit is discontinued model, then i was put through someone else who said that they weren't but it would cost £90 + postage for replacement plates. I told him the unit itself is around £60. I rang back the next day and I got totally different answers. I then rang 2 days later and i got even more diferent answers. I asked if I could talk to a manager and they said there is no manager.

    At this point I gave up. I rang them back 1 week ago and I finally got though to someone who was sane, she gave me very reasonable pricing regarding replacements and also told me that the people working in the customer service department were "muppets".

    Anyway, the product is good, the customer service is a big hit and miss situation.

    If you've used a George Foreman grill before you'll be very familiar with how it works. If you haven't, basically it is a grill that allows the fat from food to collect in a drip tray at the bottom making it a health choice.

    The positive of this version is that it heats up quicker than older versions and the light is very clearly displayed. You can still use both spray oils or wipe it on with kitchen roll. I feel the spatula has a better design for lifting the food from the plates. The removable plates are the most obvious benefits of this product, but be warned they can go back on the wrong way round which means if you don't notice it the grease/fat will collect in a well around your food.

    Unfortunately the cable isn't very long but I notice a lot of new products do this now; wonder if it is something to do with small children being able to reach them! The design of this one is much sleeker than the older one and I noticed that the bun warming facility is no longer there although I don't miss that as I never used it!

    I've used it for cooking tuna steaks, sausages, bacon, chicken breasts and steaks. What I will say, is that I found it hard to fit 4 chicken breasts on the plates. My butchers ones stood no chance but I'd have expected to fit 4 supermarket ones on. But, as I'm just using it for two people that doesn't really matter too much to me.

    I have the same complaint as most people, and the reason why it's only 4 stars. For some reason the fat drips between the tray and the bottom plate and it leaves fat on the worktop. That's easily wiped up however and doesn't stop me using it, as I prefer using my George Foreman to frying or the normal grill.
