This book is an excellent introduction to the key ideas in geology. This new revised edition has better quality photos than previous editions albeit the quality still is not ideal, also the layout is now much improved with insight boxes and new end of chapter things to remember lists.

The updated edition obviously contains information on more recent events and in places is much easier to understand than the previous edition. A worthwhile update that I highly recommend.

Was looking for a book that gave enough detail but not a text book, David Rothery is an expert in the field and writes in an informal way, its as though you are attending a lecture but one aimed at the general public rather than Uni. students.
Having said this don't think the book is basic but just that it starts with the basics and makes easy reading. I really enjoyed this book and have started a second by the same author..
