Not worth a penny 15 Aug 2004
Geoff Hamilton's garden designer is an insult to the man's memory. Clunky, complicated and frustrating, it is really not labouring away for hours to end up with some poorly animated misrepresentation of what you wanted to create. The free virtual garden designer software available from the BBC website is far superior to this apalling offering. Failing that, you would be far better off with pen and paper than this software.

Having already read the first review on this, I thought I would still buy as I am usually very good with software. I had also used a few other garden packages, so it should have been fairly straightforward to navigate - so I thought. I spent hours the first time trying to get something to resemble my garden, gave up when I couldn't get a 3d perspective and haven't tried again since. Without doubt the help menus are very limited in explanation. I also found the Plant Encyclopedia to be very limited with content. Like most I enjoy putting out the summer bedding plants, however information on site and care is virtually non-existant. The same for perenials, The Plant Encyclopedia on its own, despite sounding like it has much information "over 4000 plants", I have found of no use at all. What it doesn't say is that there are many versions of the same plant included, thus reducing the inclusion of variety. Sorry, definite thumbs down.

This programme is frustratingly awkward to use and didn't have any of the (rather common I thought) plants that I had been thinking of putting in my garden. It also had a nasty habit of making my usually well-behaved computer crash a lot.
I resorted to a pencil an paper. - Far more reliable.
