This device uses a CO2-filled cartridge under pressure to inflate your bike tyre when you get a puncture away from home base, and substitutes for carrying a pump. You repair the puncture or replace the inner tube, re-fit the tyre, press the `Ultraflate Plus' onto the valve and hey presto your bike tyre inflates quickly and with no effort. Larger-capacity devices similar to this in concept are available in pressure cans to re-inflate car tyres in an emergency.

This `Ultraflate' device is made of a tough lightweight nylon material divided into two parts connected by a screw thread so it's easily portable. The valve for the cartridge is brass. Once used, the 16g cartridge has to be discarded: 16g of CO2 will just about inflate a 700/23C road bike tyre, if not to 100psi then at least enough to get you home. For a larger-capacity inner tube as used on a mountain bike or hybrid, one 16g cartridge is unlikely to be enough so you may need several (bigger capacity 40g cartridges are also available) though of course the thicker tyres on mountain bikes don't puncture so often. It works with both Schraeder and Presta valves, and has a trigger mechanism to control the gas release.

Overall this `Ultraflate' is an excellent labour-saving convenience for the regular cyclist. If you ride a road bike with skinny tyres for minimum rolling resistance you need carry only one 16g cartridge with you, though it's probably a good idea to have a few spares at home. It's so lightweight and small it fits easily into the pocket of your shorts. The only downside is possibly that unlike a conventional bike pump, you need to buy a new cartridge every time you use it.

I have had this pump for a couple of years now and have used it several times. As well as the recommended 16gr capsule, the pump will take 12gr unthreaded capsules which you can buy for as little as 50p each from airgun stockists. I have inflated 700c/32 tubes straight from the box up to about 70psi with a 12gr capsule. With a multi tool, a spare tube, a couple of patches, and this pump with a couple of capsules, you would be very very unlucky if you found yourself pushing the bike home. Another reviewer here advocates taking everything you could possibly need for a ride and I can definitely appreciate his point, but I tend to go with the items I,ve mentioned and if I do get very very unlucky once in a few hundred rides then thats worth it compared to lugging a bag full of kit that hardly ever gets used.

Lightweight robust and small enough to fit in your jersey back pockets or your MTB shorts. The valve attachment works equally well with Presta or Schrader valves. In addition the Ultraflate will accept threaded or unthreaded CO2 cylinders so should you find yourself hunting around a supermarket for cylinders its a doddle. Nice little lock at the back stops the trigger wasting CO2 when in your bag or jersey too and its stiff enough to stay locked and easy enough to unlock with gloves on. A great product.

Having recently taken up cycling again needed something small and light to fit in back pocket. This fits the bill perfectly. Realistically for emergency use only as the cartridge has only sufficient capacity for one tyre.

Bought this for my husband for the many punctures he gets on his miles of cycling. A quicker assisted way of inflating tyre that once repair done gets you off on the road again fast.

Item received very promptly and it came with a free cartridge so I tried it in the garage on my road bike with presta valve, wow! from flat its so fast its almost instant.Just push it on the valve hold tight and press the trigger .Easy. Its a well made lightweight bit of kit with cyclinder weighs around 400 grams. Its small enough to go in jersey pocket. The actual pump is plastic but pretty heavy duty how robust it will be only time and use will tell but Im already sold on i.t The trigger mechanism works well as does the lock. I will be leaving the hand pump at home from now on on training rides with a spare tube some patches and a cyclinder you would be unlucky to have to walk home.

Well I have to say this was one of the worst purchases I have made, and not happy.

The device seems to be well made and strong, however, I have only used this a couple of times in the last 12 months and it has split around the threaded plastic part and leaks as soon as you insert the cartridge.

You have about 10 seconds to get it onto the tyre before the Co2 has wasted away.

No good for anything now except the bin, as Amazon will not accept returns on this type of product as it contains gas, although mine will never contain gas as it leaks out.

What else can I do.
