Amazon.co.uk Review

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Anita Loos' old story from the 1920s about a pair of single women in search of husbands, gets a makeover in Howard Hawks' 1953 musical. The remake stars Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe as two friends who go to Paris looking for mates. The film is charged by Hawks's stylish snap, a famous set piece or two (Monroe descending that staircase while singing "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend"), Russell's wit and songs by Leo Robin and Jule Styne. The film may largely be a fluff project best remembered as a showcase for its leading actresses, but then Monroe and Russell rarely got such extended opportunities to prove that they were more than cinematic icons.--Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

A fun and glamourous fifties musical, with Marilyn Monroe at her most beautifal. The costumes are sensational, the songs catchy and the script is witty. Marilyn Monroe plays Lorelei Lee, a fabulous goldigging blonde and Jane Russel plays Dorothy Shaw, her steady companion. When the pair go to Paris to wait for Lorelei's millionaire fiance, there's bound to be trouble when Lorelei sets eyes on a glorious diamond tiara.

Monroe at her best 19 Mar 2006
By S. Pent
Format:DVD
I bought this DVD as my mother and i used to watch it in the 80's and I loved it. I purchased it in 2006 (due to fond memories)and my 3 year old daughter loves it and sings to "Diamonds are a girls Best friend" all the time (her favourite song, I like Bye bye Baby).
Great songs that relate to the storyline. There is a part where Dorothy (Jane Russel) sings with the Olympic atheltes and i fast forward that (found it boring as a child, still do). Aside from that the DVD is a great buy and enjoyed by all ages.

I think this is the best film that Marilyn Monroe made. Both stars give excellent performances with M Monroe having some v funny and well acted lines. Glamorous film overall with lavishly produced sets and costumes. Worth a watch as a comedy even if you are not a Marilyn Monroe fan. Last singing scene with 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend' worth the price of the DVD on it's own.
