A fun and glamourous fifties musical, with Marilyn Monroe at her most beautifal. The costumes are sensational, the songs catchy and the script is witty. Marilyn Monroe plays Lorelei Lee, a fabulous goldigging blonde and Jane Russel plays Dorothy Shaw, her steady companion. When the pair go to Paris to wait for Lorelei's millionaire fiance, there's bound to be trouble when Lorelei sets eyes on a glorious diamond tiara.

I think this is the best film that Marilyn Monroe made. Both stars give excellent performances with M Monroe having some v funny and well acted lines. Glamorous film overall with lavishly produced sets and costumes. Worth a watch as a comedy even if you are not a Marilyn Monroe fan. Last singing scene with 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend' worth the price of the DVD on it's own.

Many people seem to focus, understandably, on Marilyn Monroe in their response to this film, but actually Jane Russell is just as good and together they make one of the best double acts in all cinema. The Monroe role could easily seem calculating in other hands, whereas here Lorelei manages to be - against all the odds - likeable as well, because she is so transparent, and shows a mixture of dimness with the odd flash of insight that is really quite endearing. It's an amazing thing to pull off, as is Russell's much more wised-up turn, which keeps the whole film grounded - even though we are on a boat for much of the time! The unlikelihood of such a friendship is actually one of the more realistic aspects of the whole caper, because all of it is really very camp and silly, right down to the outfits - although these are beautifully colour-coordinated. A high point in this department is Russell's swimsuit with matching short coat she wears on deck, or Monroe's bright orange number she wears for dinner, causing 'Piggy' to stop mid-sentence at the table and causing his wife to interject matter-of-factly: Finish your story, dear ... with a marvellous 'turning a blind eye' knowingness in her tone. Or there are the priceless flesh-coloured shorts worn by the entire Olympic swimming team as Russell swishes her tennis racquet and prances about between rows of bending and stretching athletes and sings Ain't there anyone here for love? It is her romantic feeling for the understated detective (Elliott Reid), who is clearly enamoured of her too, that gives the film its only 'real' feeling, and this is beautifully judged, as is the performance by Charles Coburn which stays just on the right side of sleazy. All credit must go to Anita Loos as well for writing such great lines, and the musical numbers are superb - the whole film sparkles from start to finish.

Classic, classic movie with marylyn monroe singing "diamonds are a girls best friend" (eat your hearts out nicole and madonna!) and the stunning jane russell who more than holds her own here, especially during the outrageous "any one here for love"number.(Her tumbling into the pool, i believe, was an accident but they kept it in and if you look closely at miss russell then you can tell). Both actresses are at their comedy best here. One of those one-off movies that (hopefully)no one will dare to make a remake of.The BEST!

Marilyn is at her most gorgeous in this film and there is the bonus of Jane Russell. Of course the highlight is Marilyn singing 'Diamonds are a girls best friend' but the other songs and costumes are also very good. Nice non-challenging storyline lets you focus on Marilyn.

I believe this is one of the best films Marilyn Monroe ever made.
Two really beautiful girls on a luxury liner trying to find a rich man who will offer them marriage and be able to give them what every girl wants. Their different ways of trying to achieve this are amazing and extremely funny. It would be a delightful way to spend an evening.

I bought this DVD as my mother and i used to watch it in the 80's and I loved it. I purchased it in 2006 (due to fond memories)and my 3 year old daughter loves it and sings to "Diamonds are a girls Best friend" all the time (her favourite song, I like Bye bye Baby).
Great songs that relate to the storyline. There is a part where Dorothy (Jane Russel) sings with the Olympic atheltes and i fast forward that (found it boring as a child, still do). Aside from that the DVD is a great buy and enjoyed by all ages.

This film, although not a marvelous story line, is certainly Marilyn at her best, She is certainly funny in this film and shows her talent for comedy. The dances with Jane Russell are good, and Marilyn's performance in Diamonds are a girls best friend make the film well worth
watching. One of Marilyn's best films.
