Book Description

1 Sep 2012
Once upon a time, ordering a cocktail at a bar was the kind of thing an aging lothario might do to impress a girl. But these days, knowing your Margarita from your Mojito, and your Old-Fashioned from your Tom Collins, is essential knowledge for every modern gent. In The Gentleman's Guide to Cocktails, Alfred Tong will teach you all you need to know about the fine art of mixology. From tools of the trade, to muddling and mixing, schmoozing and shaking, and including secrets from some of the world's best bartenders, you'll be mixing with mojo in no time. Hone your skills with over 100 recipes, ranging from classics like Bloody Marys and Whiskey Sours to modern marvels such as the Flirtini, the Don Draper and Under the Boardwalk. Slick and stylish, dapper and dandy, The Gentleman's Guide to Cocktails will turn you into the man who mixes. Is it worth the time just to get a drink, I hear you ask? Well yes, it does require some effort, but then so does having a suit made, seducing a woman or landing that contract. Doing it properly matters. This book is going to show you how.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super speedy, bit bashed 27 Nov 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Could not believe how fast this came, and had all the guys in the office pawing over it as soon as it came in, so no doubt this will go down well.

Have to say didn't look brand new, was a bit bashed with a few white specs where it has been bashed a bit, but all in all doesn't look read and tatty, just like a book from a shop that's not been looked after in transport.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb 9 Oct 2012
By Mitchell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
After finally starting to watch Mad Men, I know I'm a little late to the cocktail party, my friend bought this guide for me. It is eloquent, to the point but not blunt. The illustrations are classic 60's style, I almost want to cut them out and mount them on a mat board, frame them, and hang them around the apartment. The cocktail recipes are almost exactly to my liking and instructions are very easy to follow. My only qualm is that I don't care too much for maraschino cherries, I prefer the real thing, but that's really no big deal. Overall a great buy for a fan of Mad Men, for a guy who likes a properly fitted suit, or appreciates a finely mixed cocktail - like the Old Fashioned I'm currently enjoying as I write my first Amazon review.
