Format:Audio CD
If you are just discovering Jim's music because of the great tribute album by Daniel O'Donnell, you may get a feeling of déjà vu, because so many of the songs that Daniel covered can be found here, except of course that this album features Jim's recordings of the songs.
Here you can listen to Jim's British top ten hits - Welcome to my world, I love you because, I won't forget you, There's a heartache following me, It hurts so much and, of course, Distant drums, which was a posthumous number one hit. Other classics such as Adios Amigo, He'll have to go, You're the only good thing, When two worlds collide, I won't come in while he's there and Not until the next time (all of which made the UK top twenty) are also included although one UK top twenty hit ((Is it really over) and a few minor UK hits are missing. To compensate, there are many other fine songs such as Anna Marie, Am I losing you, Blue side of lonesome, The blizzard, Snowflake and How can I write on paper
A few of Jim's early hillbilly songs are included - Mexican Joe, Billy Bayou, According to my heart, Yonder comes a sucker, as well as live versions of Bimbo and Yonder comes a sucker. These are enjoyable but fail to match the brilliance of Jim's later music.
It is impossible to put all of Jim's great recordings on a double CD but, from a British perspective, this is a very strong compilation. Followers of the American charts may like to consider a different double CD, Anthology.

I was introduced to this talented star when I was knee-high to nothing by my Country & Western Music dippy elders. Jim Reeves always had an excellent voice and even though he did not write many of his own tunes, he was a pretty good musician to boot. This exemplary collection contains all the big hits, Distant Drums, He'll Have To Go etc. as well as a few bonus live cuts. A lot of thought has obviously gone into compiling this collection that spans his entire career. Just listen to the youthful Reeves singing the song, Billy Bayou. Excellent!
The only thing that has always bothered me about Jim Reeves is the amount of negativity depicted in the songs. A quick glance at the track listing reveals a plethora of words implying loss, forgetting, heartache, heartbreak, loneliness and worry. All this, when added up, can sometimes have a somewhat neutralising effect. A perfect voice that is very uplifting, soft guitar, gently strumming and lyrics awash with doom and gloom. My advice - use sparingly, but do enjoy!

I'd forgotten how good his voice was and this is the ideal selection . The information given before purchase helped me decide.
Now I also recall being in a dance hall in London when his death was announced. Stunned silence.

great listening
I bought this as a Christmas gift and bought an extra one for myself for the car- it's fantastic. it reminds me of my childhood as my Dad played Jim Reeves.

"Voice you pay attention to"
This is a 2-CD Album-and one of the best. In this Album all songs are studio recorded with the exception of bonus tracts which were live on stage and they are too good. Read more
