The reviewers at Horn Books clearly made an error in their review of my book, Gentle Willow. Their review indicated a focus on a parent dying of cancer, which is not the subject of the story. The story was originally written for children who may not survive their illness. It is a tender tale that will also help children of all ages deal with the death of friends, family members, or even pets. It provides children, and those who read the story with a "transformational" way of viewing death and dying. It's message is meant to be inspirational and healing. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I read this book to my 9 year old daughter when we found out her cancer was terminal. It helped her and her friends deal better with her impending death. I highly recommend this book to people who are dealing with children and death.

This book is an excellent choice to be read to children to help them understand the concept of dying. For nursery/primary aged children. I have this book in my nursery and I have lent it out several times to parents who needed help explaining death to their children. It particularly helps to explain death when the person has got ill first and has deteriorated in health before the death.

I bought this book for my 5 & 6 year old sons, who unfortunately have had to deal with the early death of another child. It very carefully and sensitively deals with death. It is emotional and sad to read but it also helps young children to understand why death happens in a matter of fact way that they can understand, without being frightening but yet still addressing the enormity of death and the feelings experienced by those left behind.
