A must have old fashioned one product cures nearly all. Fantastic on both humans and pets alike. It cures all fungal infections (like athlete's foot, thrush and infected eczema), ring worm, good for cuts and grazes. The only side effect is the bright purple staining. I can't believe its no longer an over the counter medicine in all the commercial pharmacies. I guess it stops the chemists selling you 5 or 6 other products for twice the price.

I bought this solution for my husband who has an annoying, irritating scalp condition probably eczema. After trying the various prescribed medicated shampoos and ointments to no avail and the uncontrollable scratching causing gaping wound like sores to develop on his head, he asked me to try and locate some gentian violet. It is the only product to have had any effect and while his scalp condition is not entirely cured yet it is very much improved and seems to be healing well. We applied the solution as it is, using cotton buds, it did cause temporary violet colour to his grey hair which was disguised with a hat and a small price to pay for a positive result.
I have previously used some gentian violet when some years ago the skin on my hands developed splits and cracks, I think due to detergents. It did the trick, I had to keep cotton gloves on under my rubber gloves for a few days but again this was worth it and I have tried to use the rubber gloves since.
A good old fashioned product the only side effect being the dye comes off, albeit temporarily, onto skin and clothes but as long as you are prepared for this you can deal with it. Recommended !

I bought this to treat a skin condition in my cat. It did not work in this case- but I fully believe that it stopped infection. The problem actually needed steroid and hormone treatment -but when I was a child, gentian violet was the first remedy for all sorts of things- and it worked.

This is the strangest thing I've ever bought and did so as a treatment for thrush infection brought on by breast feeding because of it's anti-fungal properties. Was recommended on a lactation website and did seem to help, though its always hard to be sure what finally made the difference. What I will say, is don't accidentally drop the bottle and spill half of it on your kitchen floor, unless you like violet in which case go right ahead. It now resides in the cupboard under the sink where it will probably remain for all eternity.

Should be 1% aq. Gentian Violet. Seems to me more like 0.1% or even weaker. Renders the effect virtually useless.
