In the box were two CDs; one for the driver and one for a free drawing program. The driver installs with a program that serves no other purpose but to use up hard drive space. But of course, if you uninstall it, you uninstall the driver as well. The free drawing software is no improvement from Microsoft Paint, a couple of brushes and a line tool is all you get before they ask for an upgrade. I instead downloaded Serif DrawPlus Starter (free) which I'd recommend even if you don't have a tablet.
Price:
I paid £60 for this tablet, and I see they have the cheek to put it up even more! Putting it simply, for the quality of the product the price is way too much. For £50 on Play.com you can get a Wacom (trusted brand) Pen Tablet, which I've seen is a better product. It's worth noting that I saw the Wacom after I received the tablet and that I opted for this due to there being no negative reviews. If I had seen the Wacom before however, I'd have no second thoughts about buying it over this.
The Product:
The tablet itself is made out of cheap plastic, which attracts fingerprints and dirt easily. Drawing on the tablet is far from pleasurable as it's not very smooth. The pen is horrible. It's too small and it's made out of worse materials than the tablet. The buttons are awkwardly placed so that you have to move your hand completely to get to them. When I got the tablet there was a sheet of plastic that was apparently meant to make my life easier. I took it out almost instantaneously. On it were shortcuts that you'd press and a relevant program would open - hooray! Unfortunately the icons looked older than me. They didn't even work properly. A couple of icons were: Spades (Microsoft game), Cut (didn't work), Zoom (didn't work) and Microsoft Excel. Seriously? Excel? Why would I use a drawing tablet for Excel... Granted you can use the tablet as a mouse, but that's only for convenience, a regularly mouse is 10 times quicker!
Use:
Apart from the surface of the tablet being slightly bumpy, it's use for drawing is mediocre. I'm far from an awesome artist, but I'm sure the best in the world couldn't draw a masterpiece on this. Paying for some software will probably make it more practical, but that's just more money. I found that with use on a less powerful computer (1GB RAM, 2Ghz processor) that this was sluggish and often just stopped altogether. I tried it on a faster computer and the problems still appeared, pen would skip (producing dotted lines) and would stop altogether. It takes a minute to kick in after start up also.
Summary:
Made of cheap plastic, pen is horrible, driver installs with bloat-ware, bundled software is useless, mediocre at drawing, consider Wacom Pen before buying, if this drops to 30/35 pounds then consider it, at 60+ pounds then consider others...
Note:
If you can, please please look at a few tablets before buying (Wacom, Genius, Trust etc.), £60 is a lot of money...
