Book Description

27 Mar 2012

"Think you're hardcore? Think again. If you've handled everything Edward Lee, Wrath James White, and Bryan Smith have thrown at you, then put on your rubber parka, spread some plastic across the floor, and get ready for Ryan Harding, the unsung master of hardcore horror. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here. Harding's work is like an acid bath, and pain has never been so sweet." - Brian Keene

“Enjoy the tour, friends. Enjoy the gang-bang. You may need psych drugs afterwards, you may need an air-sick bag and a steam shower, but I feel confident that you will be provocatively moved by this book.” - Edward Lee, from his introduction

Genital Grinder collects the most sought after and most extreme fiction from the diamond in the puke – Ryan Harding.

Well well, where do I begin with this book? Firstly, the title itself should warn you away if you are more of a Mills and Boon kind of reader. I came across Ryan Harding in my precious copy of "In Laymon's Terms", which contained his story "Development" which is contained in this book if you haven't been lucky enough to read ILT. Secondly, do not read this book if you are squeamish. If you are easily offended, stay well clear. I mean that. I love my horror gory, disgusting and plunging into areas that aren't spoken about over tea and scones. But I couldn't, just couldn't, read this book in one sitting. Every page had me covering my mouth in shock. The thing is though, this isn't gratuitous delivery of the shock factor by the author. The author is amazing! The descriptions he uses are nonchalantly placed, as though the events that happen occur on a daily basis. Really, we should be worried if there are folk out there with the same mindset as Mr Harding. The things he describes are beyond disgusting. I especially like how he interweaves the character into different stories. I am amazed that he can also inject dark humour into this book, and he certainly does that. Some of the characters, even though they are up to dastardly deeds, are quite loveable. Worries me to say that though. Makes me feel like I am visiting an old friend. Of all the authors I have read, I don't think any have pushed the boundaries as far as Ryan Harding. His style is fabulous, his work is beautifully edited, and he has glaringly obvious talent. Definitely one of my new favourites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Literally! 19 Jan 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you love giving your gag reflex a good going over then this is the book for you!

7 short stories that will make the hardest of horror fans wince. If there isn't one part of this book that does make you wince I would get to the nearest doctor and get them to check for a pulse!

2.0 out of 5 stars Total gore horror 1 Aug 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I probably would have loved this 5-10 years ago. As it is, gore for the sake of gore doesn't do it for me. For what it's worth, my favourite horror film of all time is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If you prefer the recent hollywood remakes, you will probably like this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Great but not entirely bad 25 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A mixed bag from the seriously disappointing first story along with the bizarre pretentious intro...to the engaging psychotic antics of Greg and Von...a kind of later day muderous Bevis and Buthead ...the last story seems so intent on achieving the maximum number of three syllable words...that you will rapidly abandon it...Not great...but not entirely bad

2.0 out of 5 stars boring... 27 May 2013
Format:Paperback
As Ed Lee disclosed in the preface this guy started out as a writer of extreme metal lyrics, and it shows. His stuff reads like the words to a Cannibal Corpse song. Formulaic, banal, juvenile. It failed to shock me, if that's what he was going for. It failed to entertain me in any other way too. Either I am desensitised, or he is just a bad writer. Only get this if you've read every Ed Lee book.
