Very Comprehensive 2 May 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is definitely not just for dummies. It goes into a lot of detail and is reasonably up-to-date. However having never studied this subject before I found it really hard work to read. The problem is it jumps across a wide range of topics and you are required to remember and be able to cross-link topics on different pages. A book with a logical top-down structure would be much easier to digest.

Convinient 13 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is very convinient to get a quick and basic understanding of genetics. It explains the termonlogy used in genetics really well, which became my main use of the book. When I didn't understand certain termology used I would look into this book would then find an simple yet effective answer! For people starting out in genetics or just have an interest in genetics I highly recommend this for you. For those or you who already have a basic understanding of genetics this book may be good at refreshing your memory but is not good for extending your knowledge.
I highly recommend this book as a starting point, and it does make a very interesting read. The layout keeps you interested throughout.

Fantastic 21 Dec 2007
By DS
Format:Paperback
I was cruelly forced to take a genetics module as part of my stage one zoology degree, and to begin with found it completely impossible, not to mention unutterably boring. I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I'm actually quite enjoying it now because of this book. All of the concepts are explained step by step, and so far I haven't come across anything I don't understand, even though more detail is given than I need to know. It's very reasonably priced too so it won't feel like a waste of money when I no longer need it (unlike the £40 book I was advised to buy and haven't yet opened!).

*2011 update* 4 years on, and I'm highly amused to read this review, given that I now work in genetics research. I guess I grew to really enjoy it! I still have this book and stand my my review of it.
