Product Description

Product Description

A Genetic Switch is concerned with how a virus called lambda uses its genes - its DNA - to direct its growth. Biologists have long wished to know how genes are 'switched' on and off during development and, aberrantly, in diseased states.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for studying Gene Expression student, 27 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: A Genetic Switch: Gene Control and Phage Lambda (Paperback)
Only a small book contains good information on gene expression with examples of control and regulations on prokaryotes, therefore handy for student to refer to and for making good notes. There is actually a new version of this 2nd edition published by Blackswell, slightly different with most eukaryotes information is taken out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhh, enlightenment., 20 April 1998
By derek141 "derek141" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Genetic Switch: Gene Control and Phage Lambda (Paperback)
This book is a must for molecular biology courses- undergrad and grad alike. It is a beautiful in-depth examination of a model to give us an appreciation for molecular biology at a comfortably sophisticated level. This effective practice of learning generality from particular models is one that, sadly, many professors have gotten away from in our current world of 1200 page textbooks. Ptashne writes with brilliant simplicity without sacrificing nature's complexity.
