Book Description

15 April 2010
Three and a half years ago former Grant County medical examiner Sara Linton moved to Atlanta hoping to leave her tragic past behind her. Now working as a doctor in Atlanta's Grady Hospital she is starting to piece her life together. But when a severely wounded young woman is brought in to the emergency room, she finds herself drawn back into a world of violence and terror. The woman has been hit by a car but, naked and brutalised, it's clear that she has been the prey of a twisted mind. When Special Agent Will Trent of the Criminal Investigation Team returns to the scene of the accident, he stumbles on a torture chamber buried deep beneath the earth. And this hidden house of horror reveals a ghastly truth - Sara's patient is just the first victim of a sick, sadistic killer. Wrestling the case away from the local police chief, Will and his partner Faith Mitchell find themselves at the centre of a grisly murder hunt. And Sara, Will and Faith - each with their own wounds and their own secrets - are all that stand between a madman and his next crime...

Amazon Review

Even those who know Karin Slaughter’s books only by reputation are aware of her pole position in the realm of tough and persuasive crime thrillers. In Genesis we are again in the company of medical examiner Sara Linton, who several years previously had left Grant County for Atlanta to heal the psychological wounds of her troubled past. Holding down a job in Atlanta’s Grady Hospital, she is slowly finding a kind of equilibrium again. But then a seriously wounded young woman is delivered to the hospital, and Sara finds herself once again in a familiar world of brutality and evil. Although the young women is the victim of a car accident, it’s evident that she has also been at the mercy of a sadistic killer. Working on the case is Will Trent, an agent of the Criminal Investigation Team, and at the scene of the accident, he discovers a grim subterranean secret: a room laid out like a torture chamber with instruments of mutilation. And the psychotic individual responsible will soon be plying his grisly trade again, unless Sara Linton and Will Trent can assume responsibility for the investigation (the local police chief being unable to cope). The clock is ticking…

This is Karin Slaughter firing on all cylinders – showing, as ever, that she would never be happy trading on past glories. Each new book represents a move forward for her, and Genesis pushes all the right buttons. Particularly impressive here (along with the customarily compelling and gruesome narrative) is the foregrounding of the emotional problems of both protagonists, handled with real assurance. --Barry Forshaw --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Review

"Without doubt an accomplished, compelling and complex tale, with page-turning power aplenty" (Daily Express )

"Slaughter's plotting is relentless, piling on surprises and twists ... A good read that should come with a psychological health warning" (Guardian )

"Criminally spectacular" (OK! )

"It's beautifully paced, appropriately grisly, and terrifyingly plausible. Who says there's anything peaceful and quiet about small-town America" (Time Out )

"Brilliantly chilling" (heat ) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed! 5 Sep 2010
By swarvey
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I bought this item along with Genesis for my partner for his birthday. Both of us have previously enjoyed Karin Slaughter's books. He read Genesis first and 2 nights ago he was looking forward to reading Undone - can you imagine his disappointment when upon opening the book he finds that it is the same story as Genesis! Different name but same story - we assume that one title is for the American market and the other for the English market. Really feel conned by this! Think that the write up at Amazon should have explained that it was the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Undone 12 Oct 2009
By OB
Format:MP3 CD
I am a big fan of Slaughters. I buy everything as soon as it comes out. I was extremely excited that a new title "Undone" was not only unabridged, but available on MP3.

My only disappointment, and I am not sure who to direct this at, was that for some unknown reason they called the abridged version "Genesis" and the unabridged version "Undone". I like the twists and turns of her stories and felt a bit cheated on this one because I had already listened to the story (having snatched "Genesis" up as soon as it was out, and knew the outcome.

By the time I had listened to "Undone" I managed to convince myself that I was glad I had bought it - but if I had known Genesis and Undone were the same story, I would have enjoyed Undone much much more, as I would not have bothered with Genesis.

Format:Hardcover
I haven't actually read this book, I don't need to, this has also been released under the title Genesis, I didn't find this out until I had purchased both copies online. It is a good read though!
I have also learned that Skin Privilege and Beyond Reach are one & the same book!
