Product Description

Product Description

Forty years after the release of their first single, Genesis are back. Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford have reunited for their first tour in over a decade, and anticipation is high for sold-out concerts across Europe and North America in summer 2007. The author traces the group s entire career, from the early days with Peter Gabriel, featuring progressive classics like "Supper s Ready" and "The Musical Box"; through the Phil Collins years, with hits like "That s All," "Invisible Touch" and "I Can t Dance"; the post-Collins Genesis; and right up to the present day. The book tells the story of the music - the songs and how they were written and recorded; the concerts, from early college gigs to packed stadiums; and how Genesis music evolved over the past four decades. Genesis: Behind the Lines is based on extensive archival research and the author s own interviews with past and present band members and those who have worked closely with them. Also included is an extensive discography, including solo releases and a section on bootlegs, as well as numerous illustrations.

This is an excellent new book (published in 2007)on Genesis.

Whilst much of the story is familiar from previous books on the band, the author has carried out a number of exclusive interviews which adds plenty of new opinion and information.

The book is well written and highly readable and Robin focuses on some areas which haven't received enough attention in the past for me (eg the development of the multiple 12-string sound and the use of the Mellotron.)

A well written account of 40 years of the group Genesis. Interesting throughout and well illustrated. Good value, particularly for fans of the group. Recommended.Genesis: Behind the Lines, 1967-2007

Despite some howling errors (Guildford is SW of London, not SE!), this is a good little, if somewhat cheaply made book. I thought I knew everything about Genesis, but it told me thing that were new to me, which is good. Covered nicely is the period between Ant Phillips and Steve Hackett (often overlooked) and looks into the 12 string sound the band initially was working on. I think the authour is more of a fan of their early work (which, lets face it, is considerably better and more imaginative), but this is a pleasant read and neither opinionated or rambling.
