Review

"This book is...an attempt to come to grips with the increasing toxification of the biosphere." Charles Schweighauser Boston Book Review --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Product Description

Presents evidence that human exposure to some toxic chemicals can have lifelong and even intergenerational effects on human reproduction and development. The result of a collaboration involving public health professionals, physicians, environmental educators and policy advocates, this book examines how scientific, social, economic and political systems may fail to protect people from environmental and occupational toxicants. The authors focus on classes of chemicals that people may be exposed to at work, at home or in their communities. These include toxic metals, organic solvents, pesticides and endocrine disruptors. In addition to providing scientific information with which to assess the health risks of many chemicals, the book provides a guide to late-1990s regulatory system and resources for action.

Valuable Compendium of Risk 5 Dec 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Generations at Risk is a perfect blend of science and advocacy. Not just for the more technically minded reader, it addresses not only comprehensive reviews of chemicals and their effects, but includes the rationale of policy makers, industry, and the public. Excellent desk reference of history and science for anyone concerned with the dangers of chemical exposure.

properly informative 19 Mar 2009
By Akira Touya - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
this book is as information-dense as one could hope for. it seemed as non-biased as it is possible to be considering the subject of the book and the authors' intentions in writing the book. it goes into much detail regarding different reproductive toxins and how and why they affect humans and animals. it also explains the different damages the chemicals effect. in the latter part of the book it also explains the regulatory system in the united states of america and how it is in parts beneficial and detrimental to the effective regulation and safe use of the discussed chemicals.

A perfect blend of detail, well thought out analysis of its meaning and plausible plan of action. Definitely not pleasure reading but if you are curious about the subject, definitely a good place to start.
