Product Description

Product Description

"Blackstone's Police Manual" on "General Police Duties" is the leading text on police law, and the only official reference work for police officers preparing for promotion examinations and for probationary officers. It covers all aspects of general police duties law and procedure from a police officer's perspective. The 2005 edition has been extensively revised to incorporate all legislative developments such as the Criminal Justice Act 2003, the Sexual Offences Act 2003, and the Anti-Social Behavior Act 2003, and a number of case decisions and changes in policy. "Blackstone's Police Manuals" have become the best-selling police reference text in the UK. In addition to being the only official study guide for the police promotion examination in England and Wales, and the recognised text for police probationers, the Manuals have quickly established themselves as the definitive source for all who are involved in police law and procedure. Endorsed by Central Police Training and Development Authority, the Manuals have been written in consultation with polices force in England and Wales, incorporating views from Detective schools, Driver Training Centers, and operational officer and police managers countrywide. This new edition focuses on General Police Duties and covers key topics including: human rights; police powers; harassment, hostility and anti-social behavior; public order and terrorism; firearms and weapons; civil disputes; offences and powers relating to information; discrimination and equality. It has also been revised and updated, and includes new questions on important areas of the law.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent refernec book for police, 22 Mar 2010

A good comprehensive source of law and case law for those working in the Police service. And an essential read for those studying part 1 ospre exams! The books are well laid out and quite comprehensive and should form the foundation of an revision or studying programme within the police.
My only critiscm of the books are when studying for an exam they can get quite hard going. I would prefer to see a `crammer' style summary section where pertinent case law and pints are recapped and explained. Though I do understand you can by separate crammers to this end I feel their inclusion would help a reader make more sense as they progress through the books.
I have had both the 2006 and 2009 editions and my review is the same for both. Albeit the only real changes have been updated legislation.

When studyin for the exam these books are ideally complimented by the online Q&A form Blackstone's and personally I would not use the Q&A books as online provide instant feedback with reference to the learning points and an explanation , track stats and trends etc

4.0 out of 5 stars good for reference, 20 July 2001
This book is a good up to date reference guide for general police duties. The text perfectly displays legislation and includes points to consider. Also incorporated is reference to the Human Rights Act 1998, a very touched upon subject nowadays.
