Having been shown the Swedish edition of this book by a jeweller in Gothenburg, I decided to buy this edition. I have not put it down since. As someone who is both a scientist and a lover of jewellery, this book has provided a wealth of information on all manner of gemstones, from interesting trivia, through scientific data and through to what to look out for and avoid if you are looking to buy a gemstone. If I can recommend this book for nothing else however, I would recommend it for the ideas it will give you for alternative stones to buy to match a given colour or type of gemstone. For example, I will now be taking a much closer look at buying precious beryls, which I have found are the same as emeralds and aquamarines, but of different colours; beautiful stones often at a lower cost than their better known brothers. I have also found that a number of stones I was intending to buy should be avoided for various reasons. For this reason alone, I consider it money well spent buying this book.
In summary, if you have any sort of interest in gemstones (and also to a lesser extent, minerals) I highly recommend this book.
