It is a very rainy afternoon in Scotland, the children are on their October break from school and, mummy is feeling poorly! I needed a way to entertain my daughter and 2 sons, which wouldn't take too much energy. Their ages are 7,6 and 2. After reading books (which have been, read to death!), painting, making up my own stories, colouring, watching a film and baking, they were still bored!
I have read 2 other books by the same Author and was impressed, so I decided to buy this for my kindle, in a bid, to entertain my bunch!
Within seconds, all 3 of the children were absolutely roaring with laughter and rolling around on the floor! There were lots of funny moments.
The language in the book is very easy to understand. My 6 year old son has difficulty understanding language, I usually buy him books that are aimed at a slightly younger age group, but he coped really well with this story.
We were reading this from the kindle, which obviously doesn't have many pictures. I felt that this proved the strength of the story. My 6-year-old, didn't mind that there weren't any of the usual colourful pictures, that he is used to.
I identified words that, I would expect to see in the Oxford Reading Tree. My middle son is at stage 3/4 and my daughter is at stage 11, but I found that they equally enjoyed the story, even though they are at very different stages.
There was also, a wee bit of science, slipped into the story too. Again, so easily explained, therefore, easy to understand for the children.
This story has entertained 3 children, of very different ages and ability. They are now, sitting at the kitchen table, discussing the story and making their own, 'Beetle People' space ship! Three happy children, equals one happy mummy! Mission accomplished!
