As the title says, this little hammock is one of the best purchases I've ever made. I bought it as I'm going abroad this summer with some friends and wanted an alternative to sleeping on the floor in a tent and it's absolutely fantastic. I strung it up and tentatively put my weight on it (11 stone) and it took the weight very well. My old man then had a go (13 stone) and it easily coped with his beer belly. Absolutely brilliant buy and would recommend to anyone.

For the price its absolutely brilliant! Mind zipped back pockets and such like when using it, I snagged mine and broke one of the cords. I'd also recommend putting some sticks or something near each end to hold it open, without them it feels like your being cocooned.

Having read other people's reviews about this hammock, I thought it would be useful in the loft as a hanging storage place for our Christmas tree and decorations. A lot of storage area was lost when extra roofing insulation was put down.
I was pleased to find this hammock is made of strong, soft plaited material so it didn't hurt our hands when fixing it across the beams on a couple of hooks. It works perfectly and holds no end of stuff! Another useful tip I picked up was to place a rod across the ends to spread it out and hold it open. That works well. This hammock has freed up such a lot of platform space in the loft and we may well order another one. There are plenty of beams up there!

Please note that this Gelert Hammock is not as described by Gelert.
The netting is only 175cm long and 70cm wide at the shoulders (due to the tension of the hanging cords) and the hammock length is only 230 cm long between the hanging loop and not 350cm by 190cm wide as described on the hammock bag. If you stretch the hammock to 190 cm wide it reduces the length down to 140cm. I am 170cm tall and am almost too long for this product.

The nylon string-net construction makes your body weight pull it tightly in sideways, like a straightjacket. It also made it difficult for me to get my shoulders in.

As another reviewer suggested, using a stick at each end as a spreader-bar helps.

It's fine if you lie still and go to sleep, but you cannot prop yourself up to read, or turn round in it easily.

Something to watch out for with young children. My four-year-old daughter got her foot tangled in the net when she got out and she ended up stuck. Thankfully it was hung low enough for her to take her weight on her hands, so she was not left dangling by her ankle with the string cutting in to it.

Its strong points are that it packs up into almost nothing so it is great for backpacking where every ounce counts, and it can be used and put away wet. And the price of course.

We have had ours for 5 years now. We take it in in winter, otherwise it is out there, rain or shine. It is (almost) as good as new.

    Careful of buttons, pockets, etc.

    My daughter loves it.

bought 2 of these to take on holiday, they do exactly what I hoped, small, compact and light but strong enough for a non too slim adult to lounge about on with confidence!
