I wouldn't be surprised if this shovels original intention was to be used by the armed forces, in fact if you search for a army folding shovel on the Internet the results that come back look almost identical to this one, not to mention it comes in that nice army green. When I first saw it, I could not believe how solid the construction was. The blade is the most important part of the shovel and I doubt this blade would bend or break any time soon. If someone is looking for a shovel to have in their rucksack then it has the advantage that it can be folded neatly away but at the same time it does weigh 1 kg and it does not come with a cover for the blade which means having to clean it before putting it back in the rucksack, that is why I have given it 4 stars.
It's a little on the heavy side but then again I doubt that I will ever need to replace it.

A good solid tool to have handy in the car for when the snow arrives. Could do with some sort of sheath to keep it in to become a 5*.

Used this to dig hard dirt up to build dirt jumps with. It goes into the solid ground very well and the blade can be turned into a pickaxe style tool for very quick digging. The tip cut straight through roots in the ground as well. It is of very solid build quality and is definitely worth the price.
My only criticisms are that the locking collar can come a little loose as you dig meaning the spade blade starts to rattle. Also the edge is serrated as a "saw" but certainly nothing can be sawn with it, The teeth aren't sharp at all, it doesn't cut at all but who needs a spade to cut down a tree! Great product!

Sturdy but needs cover
Good well-made tool, would benefit from a pouch to hold it. The cardboard box would get damaged in the car or rucksack.
