I bought this as a replacement for £10 roll mats, which are probably the most inhumane creation in existence in comfort terms.

I'm happy to say that this is a world apart and I am extremely happy with it.

The reviews can be believed, it's comfortable, fairly light and compact.

The only downside for me is that it doesn't self inflate in quite the manner I expected. It took so long that I ended up blowing it up myself. Whether that is the result of a defect or just how it is, it's a minor issue and shouldn't put you off of the purchase.

***Edit***

I have just used this on a fishing weekend and now feel the need to give it an extra star. The night temperature dropped to -9 and I was camped out on the banks of a river (incidentally, I know that the banks of a river are not best practice but I was fishing!).

This was a night in which my brand new tent was found seriously wanting, and my brand new expensive sleeping bag was just not as good as it claimed to be. The Gelert mat proved its true worth as it prevented all but a small amount of cold from getting through (which the sleeping bag dealt with anyway), and in comfort terms, it by far outstripped anything I've ever slept outdoors on.

My opinion now is that despite having to blow this up manually, it is genuinely worth every last penny when you're on it, even down as far as -9 degrees, and I have no hesitation in giving it a full recommendation.

***Further Edit***

These are ridiculously good value. Having had mine for some time now, and having used them mercilessly I can honestly say just buy them. Don't even think about it. Buy one even if you don't need one! Priceless and has allowed me to keep a light load without costing me a decent nights sleep.

I was worried about buying my first self inflating mat especially one where the sides are cut down to reduce weight, but I didn't need to be.

On first inflation you do need to blow forcefully several times into the opened valve to get it to self inflate on its own.

On first usage I inflated the mat fully but found it uncomfortable to sleep on, but on reducing the amount of air inside the mat was actually more comfortable than my normal bed!

Disappointed that the packing bag did not come with straps fastened to the outside of the bag (two 1" elastic bands for the width and pull cord with toggle at top) as there is no way to attach the bag to the outside of a rucksack without having to buy more straps. Will have to buy a better bag sometime in the future.

All in all I am happy with this mat, but have given it 4* due to the disappointing packing bag.

Purchased for a camping trip, looked at the suncamp one but decided the extra thickness would be worth it and I was right. Tried the suncamp and couldn`t get comfy but this Lite Mat was fantastic. Easy to inflate and pack away. Great value.

This is just amazing, I was uncertain about the mat to buy for camping, checked every model.
The thickness of that is just perfect, very very confortable, I really don't fell the need for a 5,7 or 10cm thick mat.
And when you roll it down it's just very small and the weight is awesome.
The width for me isn't an issue, I use to sleep in fetal position and it's very confortable, not too narrow, I'm 168cm tall though.
The hips don't touch ground even on my side.
The valve is a bronze one, so it's a lot more durable that plastic ones.
I'm not an extreme adventurer so I can't say anything about the isolation from the ground, I can just say to you that the mummy shape isn't disturbing for me, even using it with a rectagle type sleep bag.
It is shipped with two elastic bands, an orange and lightweight compression bag and the emergency repair kit.
I think that if you want something of high quality and durable at an affordable price this mat it's a real bargain.

I bought this mat for an expedition to Peru this summer, and didn't really know whether to get a self-inflating mat or normal foam mat, but I'm really glad that I went with this one. Using it over a training weekend in Creiff, Perthshire, I found that the mat was great at night, being really comfortable unless perched over a sizeable rock.

There were however a couple of things that weren't so good though, mostly being that I found I had to blow up the mat quite a bit more to fully inflate it. Although there is a stuff sack included, I would recommend getting a more substantial stuff sack to protect further from tearing the material.
Also, something unusual I noticed was that the mat tended to trap moisture beneath it, it might be the type of material, but it meant that I had to dry the tent each morning. In comparison to my tent-mate's Thermarest, it packed down relatively small, is good and light, and proved to be great value for money.

Very comfortable and good quality. Definitely worth the money and would recommend without hesitation. You can pay silly money for these but this performs very well for the price. It rolls up nicely into the provided bag unlike some camping products which are a nightmare to get back in the bag once they leave the factory.
