I was given this product to test, review and keep by the manufacturer, in return for an honest review.

This product has come under a lot of criticism from many different reviewers. I looked at all aspects of the construction and final results and I have come up with these conclusions. The unit is cheaply made and you could cut your finger on the internal blade. It does waste a lot of say a carrot, as you need to "pin" the vegetable onto a spike in the rotating handle attachment. This leaves about a half inch of vegetable uncut. It does create vegetable spirals from hard veg and is easy to use, but on a number of occasions the veg broke and its not easy to clean nor remove broken pieces of veg.

Overall, this is not a great piece of equipment, but it does do its job of creating spirals out of hard vegetables. I can only recommend this product with caution.

I tested this product by taking cucumbers and full-size carrots through it. I was impressed with the speed with which a cucumber was reduced to the intended product. With the circular, pronged handle to press the vegetable in, there was very little of the cucumber that could not be processed. My estimate was slightly over an inch remained. Even with the effort of twisting the cucumber by hand, it is easy to see how this device could be used to reduce enough cucumbers or vegetables of a similar shape into a dish that could feed several people. Both blades worked equally well in this test.
The carrot was another matter, the sturdier construction of the carrot combined with the smaller diameter made it difficult to process. It was not as much of a problem when I was on the thicker end, but approximately half-way through the process the carrot became difficult to control. The end result was that half the carrot could not be processed. A subsequent try with a slightly thicker carrot led to similar results and moving to the other blade did not help.
The blades on this slicer are very sharp, making any handling in any way other than using the handles problematic. Unlike other slicers that I have seen, there is no cleaning brush included. The food matter, especially the carrots, was tightly packed into the blades. I found it necessary to use a butter knife to dig it out. While the slicer is dishwasher safe, the conical construction makes the blades largely inaccessible to water flow, making some form of initial hand cleaning necessary. The lack of a brush makes this inferior to other brands that include one.

I love this wee gadget. I eat quite a low carb diet and as such sometimes miss spaghetti with my bolognese but this allows me to have a substitute. Really easy to use with carrots and courgettes. I imagine cucumber would cut well in this too but haven't tried that yet. Nice to be able to have my veggies in a different form and texture. Easiest way to clean this is with one of those dish brushes, difficult to get into the teeth otherwise. Only negative point is the top piece that is supposed to grip onto the end of the veg you are cutting. It's pretty useless. We tend to just stick a fork in the end of the veg we are cutting and turn it instead. This allows you to get further down the veg as well.

This review is from: Gefu 13460 Spiral Cutter Spirelli (Kitchen & Home)
Pasta is a real staple in our household. I had not tried a spiral vegetable slicer before, and was greatly surprised at the ease of use. This small vegetable slicer is quite handy. It came well packaged, and all the information and instructions you need are on the sides of the package.

This hand-held julienne slicer has two convenient size options. I used a zucchinni and a carrot to try this out. The cylinder shape is nice, and I began by slicing it against one of the julienne sides. I used the safety holder to protect my fingers. I got long 12 inch strands of zucchinni and carrot, I sautéed them in olive oil with salt and pepper and a little red pepper, quite delicious and so easy to use. This is dishwasher safe and easy to clean. I hand wash and use a small kitchen brush to get out all of the leftover strands of vegetable. This is nice size that fits in my kitchen drawer. I am making a coleslaw for dinner and will use this with my carrots. Note: product received for use and review.
