My ipod is my most treasured possession and I spend hours listening to it with earphones. I've tried various docking stations and never been overly impressed with them. They never quite live up to my expectations. So I wasn't expecting a lot from the Gear4 Airzone Series 1. I was pleasantly surprised.
The dock is sleek looking with with its stylish black and chrome look. The small LCD display is only a single line and could be improved by being maybe a line or two bigger but overall, at a glance I was impressed.
The initial set up was relatively simple once I had gotten the hang of the remote control. The remote is tiny and there is a delay of several seconds between pressing a button and the dock responding. This took a bit of getting used to as I tend to get a bit click-happy when there isn't an immediate response.
When I first connected my ipod the ipod froze and it was about 2 terrifying minutes before it began to work again. This appeared to be an initial blip as it hasn't done this again since. The actual dock part where the ipod sits seems a bit precarious and it took me several attempts to get the ipod to fit snuggly but once in, it seems pretty secure.
It took 30 seconds to connect the dock to my wireless network and was much simpler than I had expected especially as I'm a bit of a novice with these things. Setting up the radio was also very simple.
The sound quality from the speakers is surprisingly good. There are seven EQ settings; off, rock, pop, bass, jazz, acoustic and classical so you can change it to your personal preference.
Overall this is a nice little system. A couple more LCD display lines and maybe a clock and this would be a lovely little docking station. I'm very impressed with it.
