5.0 out of 5 stars Well researched and particularly moving for me 24 Nov 2013

This is an exceedingly well researched book about a small village east of Arras that was of major significance in WW1 when it changed hands twice and was the resting place for many men. I was there last week but hadn't read this book then. It now comes even more to life. My grandfather was wounded there on the night of 5th June 1918 when trying to consolidate a recently captured trench. I could find the exact location with a trench map and Google Earth map.
We later enjoyed a meal in the Hotel de Ville next to the mayor's house, both referred to in the book. The Mayor's house was attacked by the Naval Division in April 1917. By the end of the was it was a ruin. With help from the Council of Westminster it was rebuilt after the war. Find out why yourself by reading this detailed and informative book that unlocks the history of a seemingly small, non de script village. The village is given a new life and meaning once its history and monuments are explained.
