De Gaulle life and times,
By
This review is from: De Gaulle (Life & Times) (Paperback)
Overall, a good read. I liked how Julian Jackson also commented on his remoteness and egs of ingratitude to the resistance, and not just how he was arguably the most important frenchman during this period. Also, good background info on him.

Brilliant!,
By Lloyd Smith - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: De Gaulle (Life & Times) (Paperback)
Julian Jackson does the life, meaning, legacy, and myth of the outstanding Frenchman of the latter half of the twentieth century, all in 170 pages. The author is a scholar but a lively writer, and he knows whom to quote to take in the larger view. (I love where De Gaulle, a reader of conservative taste, admits to sampling the naughty Francoise Sagan "for the subjunctives"). The book is not only short but small, yet it is packed with information thanks to Jackson's tight writing style. There are also a great many illustrations running through the book, some in color.
