Gato Negro is the last album by 7 Year Bitch, one of the many rior grrrl bands of the arly 1990s. Unlike their first 2 albums, this one was recorded for a major label, and this shows in the sound quality. Where the previous albums were decidedly lo-fi, this album benefits from clear production - no longer does the guitar drown out everything else.
Nevertheless, 7 Year Bitch still sound as angry as they did when they started out. The songs are driven - powerful rhythms and searing guitar, and of course, Selene Vigil's vocals. Vigil is a perfect front woman, who can sound vulnerable as well as outraged - both equally well. Her lyrics are thoughtful and thoughtprovoking.
Released in 1996, this album came out as the media hype about Riot Grrrl has long faded away. It is different from much early riot grrrl stuff - this is sophisticated punk-rock with grunge influences (they were after all from Seattle). This will appeal to fans of Bikini Kill as much as fans of the Pixies or Nirvana.

Outstanding tracks include the contrasting soft/loud of "Crying Shame", the pounding punk-rock of "Disillusion" and the excellent "24,900 Miles Per Hour".

Seven Year Bitch is a great band who are a hybrid of riot grrrl punk and grunge..
The songs on this album are very catchy and songs like 'Crying Shame' and '24,900 miles per hour' are without a doubt are 2 of the best songs on the album.
