5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Story........... 11 Sep 2013

and written by a British author.

Decades have gone by since there was a portal opened from Faerie into our World and what followed was a war that decimated most of the world.

Fayth a teenager is living with her Father who is teaching her how to defend herself as well as telling her about the Faerie War of yore. When her Father is killed by a Faerie, Fayth is taken by another Faerie (a Spriggan) called Rowan who says that she is half Faerie and that she must travel to Bristol to recover a certain something that will close the portal and stop the nasty Faeries from pouring through into our world once again.

Rowan and Fayth team up with Dillon, Fayth's next door neighbours son and together they travel to Bristol having many great adventures along the way. Will Fayth find what she is seeking? You'll have to read the book to find out.

This was so fluently written it kept me gripped in its thrall from beginning to end.

Highly recommended.

"Gateway to Faerie" is an exciting new Young Adult/ teen distopian novel ideal for lovers of dark Faerie tales. I was instantly drawn to the magnetically attractive cover of this beautiful book, and liked the sound of the intriguing storyline with a different `take' on the world of Faerie. As an avid fantasy reader and addicted to Fae, I could not help but be spellbound by the wonderfully imaginative creation of the Gateway.

Fayth is the girl tasked with closing the portal, so as to protect her world from the destructive powers of darkness that threaten to destroy all she holds most dear. The story itself is set two hundred years after the world has been destroyed by a terrifying Faerie invasion {that's somewhat unexpected!}, with dark haunting creatures filtering in through the Gateway and into the world.

The sinister twist in this tale is that Fayth is a descendant of a powerful Faerie! The key to closing the Gateway is in her blood...
She embarks on a dangerous quest to find the Bell Stone, and with it stop the world from being destroyed once more.

Firstly, Fayth Blackman is your typical teen studying for her exams and a protagonist who I simply loved! The clever mix of darkness and light {with Fayth showing the light} was an inspired combination, plus the dark twist with Fayth's Faerie blood putting an altogether innovative slant on the most extraordinary story. Books such as `Wicked Lovely' and `Forever Fae' don't contain the deliciously dark side to the world of Faerie, which is so vividly realised in this creation...as luscious as chocolate! The world that Mandy has created is supremely magical and enchanting, plus the engaging narrative is highly addictive.

4.0 out of 5 stars easy read but lacking depth 13 Sep 2013
By Jenny
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really easy to read, nice story but I'm a bit surprised at all the 5 star ratings. I found it more of a 3.5 star but don't want to be too negative so opted for 4 as it was well written and flowed nicely. Unfortunately for me, I have read so many faerie stories that this one just didn't have the strength or depth, mystery or suspense I would have expected from what sounded like a great plot. I found it quite bland and predictable, without any real flare or substance. I won't be reading anymore in this series. I would recommend the Iron Legend series by Julie Kagawa for any fae fans though, her work is phenomenal!

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping story!!! 5 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story was a real pleasure to read - fast-paced and beautifully written, with truly likable characters and imaginative fae. The style of the writing really drew me in, so that I felt like I was there inside the story. I'm very happy that I have book two to read now so that I can find out what happens next :-)

this was definitely a teenage story - wasn't the most exciting or riveting - would say there are better books out there

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not different enough 26 Sep 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was an easy read but was constantly reminded of "Lord of the Rings" and Harry Potter, and how much more engaging they are to read (OK - they're not Faerie stories but follow the same themes: people on a quest hiding from other-worldly beings, and a little magic).
I found the writing a little simplistic and characters a bit cardboard. I'll read almost anything and almost never give up on a book, but I'm guessing this is aimed more at younger readers than a bloke in his 50's - I probably won't be reading more in this series.
