Why do they insist on producing these pointless albums with the same tracks OVER and OVER again?? Gatecrasher are almost as bad as Ministry now - I never thought I'd say that back in '99!

Why oh why!! 4 Sep 2007
Format:Audio CD
Well done Gatecrasher,u complete and utter sellouts!!This is getting ridiculous now.Why are we continuely sold this rubbish.Yet another compilation thats essentially the best of 99/2000 just repackaged with the word "Classics" taken off.It does show what a poor state Trance is in now, with the club seemingly unable to produce an album without being tempted to delve into the archives. In all fairness the third CD,which looking at the tracklisting seems like the one Jules had control of does appear to offer something different. However it just underlines what a complete mixed bag this is!Essentially just a load of "Classic" tunes, with the odd random one from Jules that must have literally been picked out from a hat.Theres just no thought to it!One of the other reviewer says that if you love the music then who cares.Well i do love the music but i'm sick of seeing tunes I bought on a compilation 7 years still appearing on CDs now!I used to be a big fan of Gatecrasher but for me this just sums up the brand. They've forgotten about there true fans, too busy trying to cater for the everyday music fan. If you want a good trance album, then Armin Van Buuren - AState of Trance is a cracker.Even the new Dave Pearce album "Delirium" is worth a look, its got more upfront selcetion of tunes than this!

The Magna Companion 24 Sep 2007
Format:Audio CD
As the last review said, the purpose of this CD is not merely to be another classics collection but to tie in with Gatecrasher's 14th birthday event which took place at Magna in Sheffield this weekend. And this it achieves pretty well. Disc 1 is effectively the classics CD, bringing things down to 1 disc instead of 2 or 3 as in other collections, and matches the kind of stuff Scott Bond would have been playing in Room 2. It's a fair collection, but as other reviewers mention, there are plenty of these about and you really only need one in your collection (or just the original compilations if you have a collection going back that far). Personally, the Classic Euphoria CDs are the best of this breed I've seen so far.

Discs 2 and 3 are more about the material played in the main room, where I spent the night. Both Matt Hardwick and Judge Jules played sets so it's not surprising that the CDs represent the kind of material that was played. This is especially true of disc 3, which I think is more representative of today's scene. There are some good recent and current tunes packed in on there, such as 'Anthem', 'Lemon Tree' and 'Bulldozer' that are certainly worth a listen.

If you went to Magna on the 22nd, buy this for the memories. If not, buy this because you wish you did.
