I always think back when listening to Gatecrasher DiscoTech, and remember dark days.. partying late into night, walking dark roads during winter, feeling a bit depressed with the dull dark weather. All this time though, Discotech Generation was with me - the dark sounds and base seemed to complete the night atmosphere, and musically, its quite exceptional.
Whether your listening to cd 1 or 2, the mixing is strong throughout, and you get the urge to party, to get up and dance. Cd1 kicks off with one of my favourite classics, Papau New Guinea, now aver 10 years old but the new hybrid mix sounds a little faster, and edited slightly different - a brilliant up-lifitng way to start. Then the discotech sounds come in with Velvet Voodoo, and from then on, the cd sounds like a journey. The mixing is so tight between these 2 tracks, Scott Bond can only be hailed as one of the most under-rated DJ's ever. This is whats good about cd1, it has more variety then the second, and each song sounds different, while still maintaining the discotech theme. Innocente is a beautiful song, remixed here by Tiesto (no wonder) and really sets a mood for the album. I just wish it could have been a little longer, as its beautiful vocals and emotional rhythm was simply made for the album. Castle Rock is another great classic song, that really is dark, but sounds so good, and makes the hairs stand up on your neck when you hear the rhythm build up. Starving Dolphins is worthy of a place here too, though not as dark as the rest. Ghosts, Hopeless, Falling Together, and Kites are all such beautiful songs in their own way, in that although they sound cold and wintry (Ghosts sounding spooky!) they just bond together so well, and pretty much sum up the album.
Cd2 however doesn't have the same variety as the previous, and is mainly full-on trance. Its not as dreamy a cd either. As I'm sure you will have no doubt read from other reviews, the big deal is that the album only gets good towards the end of cd2. In that case would it be worth buying? This isnt the case. Admittedley, cd2 does start off a bit slow, but I would say around track 5, things really pick up. Excession is a great song, and is followed by classics such as Stringer, Lost emotions, and the fantastic release me. The final three tracks then are un-doubtedly, three very fine up-lifitng trance tracks, and proves crasher can still do it.
Is it worth buying then? If you want a magic journey of sonic sounds and dark beats, with fantastic rhythms, get it! - Crasher DiscoTech Generation was quite simply made for sending you into an emotional dream during the dull months of the year. Its not a happy bright album, it isn't supposed to be, but their are tracks that will send you into an emotional daydream, and its then you realise the quality thats here. Thats when you feel happy. And if theirs one song that perfectly sums up the mood you'll enter and leave listening the album, Papau New Guinea will make you feel on top of the world, and feeling young again. Sensational stuff Mr Bond!
