Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Sheffield's legendary super-club follow their "National Anthems" album with the seventh in an ongoing series of mixed compilations, Gatecrasher Discotech Generation. As with the prior volumes, many of which have reached platinum sales, big tunes are the order of the day with an opening set of all-star eclecticism launching with the rabble rousing bleeps and beats of FSOL's ubiquitous "Papua New Guinea" before powering through tech-house cuts from Satoshi Tomei and the mashed Xpress 2 mix of "Star 69". The second CD steps up the pace still further; progressive sounds eventually shifting into trance orbit by way of Riva's irresistible "Stringer" which sets the subsequent pace before finding even its own bright star with the acid burbling which stages the epic vocal of "Voodoo". An album that screams "party". --Kingsley Marshall

I always think back when listening to Gatecrasher DiscoTech, and remember dark days.. partying late into night, walking dark roads during winter, feeling a bit depressed with the dull dark weather. All this time though, Discotech Generation was with me - the dark sounds and base seemed to complete the night atmosphere, and musically, its quite exceptional.
Whether your listening to cd 1 or 2, the mixing is strong throughout, and you get the urge to party, to get up and dance. Cd1 kicks off with one of my favourite classics, Papau New Guinea, now aver 10 years old but the new hybrid mix sounds a little faster, and edited slightly different - a brilliant up-lifitng way to start. Then the discotech sounds come in with Velvet Voodoo, and from then on, the cd sounds like a journey. The mixing is so tight between these 2 tracks, Scott Bond can only be hailed as one of the most under-rated DJ's ever. This is whats good about cd1, it has more variety then the second, and each song sounds different, while still maintaining the discotech theme. Innocente is a beautiful song, remixed here by Tiesto (no wonder) and really sets a mood for the album. I just wish it could have been a little longer, as its beautiful vocals and emotional rhythm was simply made for the album. Castle Rock is another great classic song, that really is dark, but sounds so good, and makes the hairs stand up on your neck when you hear the rhythm build up. Starving Dolphins is worthy of a place here too, though not as dark as the rest. Ghosts, Hopeless, Falling Together, and Kites are all such beautiful songs in their own way, in that although they sound cold and wintry (Ghosts sounding spooky!) they just bond together so well, and pretty much sum up the album.
Cd2 however doesn't have the same variety as the previous, and is mainly full-on trance. Its not as dreamy a cd either. As I'm sure you will have no doubt read from other reviews, the big deal is that the album only gets good towards the end of cd2. In that case would it be worth buying? This isnt the case. Admittedley, cd2 does start off a bit slow, but I would say around track 5, things really pick up. Excession is a great song, and is followed by classics such as Stringer, Lost emotions, and the fantastic release me. The final three tracks then are un-doubtedly, three very fine up-lifitng trance tracks, and proves crasher can still do it.
Is it worth buying then? If you want a magic journey of sonic sounds and dark beats, with fantastic rhythms, get it! - Crasher DiscoTech Generation was quite simply made for sending you into an emotional dream during the dull months of the year. Its not a happy bright album, it isn't supposed to be, but their are tracks that will send you into an emotional daydream, and its then you realise the quality thats here. Thats when you feel happy. And if theirs one song that perfectly sums up the mood you'll enter and leave listening the album, Papau New Guinea will make you feel on top of the world, and feeling young again. Sensational stuff Mr Bond!

Two CD's of total enjoyment. With a slight exception of CD1, it was an exceptional album. The first CD proves to be more mellow and lacks gatecrashers world renowned mix of beats and melody. However, fear not, the second CD picks up the pace to bring it all back together again and fill your mind with the world of gatecrasher. Make sure to catch tracks 13 to 17 on CD2. They make you groove to the mood. An exceptional album, make sure it has a permanent place in the CD player. Gatecrasher is life!!!!

This has to be the best Gatecrasher CD to date with some of this years largest tracks on - Questions by David Forbes is a masive anthem with sampled vocals really driving the tune. The follow up from delerium is also very good as is Geof Lawz Proj - Dr Kings Dream on disc 2. If you are serious about clubbing and love trance and some progressive house this is a must have!! This album really does give you a taster of a good night out with Castle Rock by Wheed Baskin. BUY BUY BUY
