I first bought this book 16 years ago when my first son was 2 years old.since then I have read it over and over again to my second son, my nephews and friends children. As you can imagine it is now in a sorry state, so, I am going to buy a second copy to use in my work with disabled small children. This book is entertaining, funny and holds a valuable message for children of all ages. It is only improved upon by the use of different voices for each character as you read it. It is a valuable addition to any child's library.

I was bought this book as a 5 year old; it was so amazing I remembered it all my life and am now buying it 30 years later for my daughter. The book is a very entertaining story centering on young Garth Pig, who is lured away by a seemingly friendly ice cream van lady (really a wolf in disguise!). On one level it's a thrilling story to read (will he escape, will his family rescue him?) on another it's a great way to teach young kids about being wary of strangers, however kindly and safe they may seem. The lesson certainly worked on me, I read the book over and over and never forgot it. Buy this book if you want to teach a young child about stranger danger without frightening them, whilst giving them a story they'll love.

A terrific story with the Pig Family. I was delighted to get this second-hand as it has been out of print for ages. Once again, the wolf in disguise tries to capture Garth pig -this time posing as an ice cream lady.
After an exciting chase, his brothers and sisters rescue him.and they do eventually get an ice cream. A great story to warn about 'stranger danger.' How I wish they would reprint the whole series!
