I bought this when I started geocaching. I wasn't sure I'd keep up with the hobby, but my GPS for the car was totally not up to the task. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but didn't want to have to manually enter the coordinates. This one does the trick. It comes with a USB cable for easily downloading the caches. Battery life seems good. Since it runs on two standard AA batteries, it is easy to have replacements with the rest of your geocaching stuff. So far it has been quite accurate.

I do dislike the current trend in manufacturers not including proper handbooks with their products. Sure, I can look stuff up on the internet, but I certainly don't want to spend all my time at the computer. It would be nice to sit on the sofa in the evening and page through a proper handbook and learn new things about my gadget. This lack of a real handbook means I don't use this to its full potential.

Great device 26 Oct 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
As a molecatcher I bought this device to mark the location of mole traps I've laid in large fields, where typical methods of mapping would not work.

Marking the location is a simple process of two clicks of the Enter button and the Find function allowed me to find the mole trap by name or by "Nearest to me". Although the accuracy of the GPS system is said to be around three metres I found that on most occasions the Etrex Legend H took me to within a couple of feet.

In 4 weeks of use there were only a couple of occasions where the location the GPS was giving me seemed to be significantly off from my actual position - I have no idea why but turing the device off and off fixed this.

The USB interface allowed me to attach it quickly to my MacBook and I used Garmin BaseCamo and Google Earth to manage and map the waypoints I had created.

All in all a useful device.

I don't have any real criticism of the device except that the Enter button is a little difficult to get used to and the some of the menu logic could be improved.

Two Duracell AA batteries seem to last about 24 hours so I would recommend buying some rechargables which last around 8 hours - or a days use.

I would also recommend buying screen protection - particularly if you are going to be using the device in muddy/dirty conditions. I bought a screen protector from Folix and was impressed by the protection it offered.

No Good 24 Jun 2011

In my opinion this item is very very poor. It is difficult to use, the instructions are terrible and confusing. To get anything out of it you would have to spend even more money on purchasing further software. You can not enter either post codes or even latitude or longitude co ordinates. You can not even see what your current location unless you are in a large town, in which case why not just read the sign it would be quicker than waiting for this thing to find satellites. Trying to move the joystick and the pointer from a known location to find where you would like to go to is also a pointless exercise unless it is at least 20 miles away.
Oh and if it is sunny or you haven't got your glasses or it is raining you won't be able to see the screen anyway.
Take my tip spend less than 5% of the cost on this and but a map made out of paper and spend £2 on a cheap compass, you will have far more luck than on this worthless piece of junk.
