Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

No larger than a baseball and priced with affordability in mind, the StreetPilot i3 GPS navigation system is a great fit for commuters, college students, and corporate travelers looking to experience the ease and enjoyment of satellite navigation for the first time. Don't let the small size fool you; the i3 boasts many of the same powerful functions as Garmin's premium vehicle GPS navigators. The StreetPilot i3 features a unique and convenient click-to-enter scroll wheel and a Back button that makes it easy to select a destination from the unit's menu-driven interface. It also offers voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions through a built-in speaker, and should you miss a turn, the i3 will automatically recalculate the route to put you back on course. And perhaps most conveniently, the unit moves easily from vehicle to vehicle thanks to the integrated suction cup mount, so you don't need to go through a cumbersome process each time you change cars.

As an added benefit, you can now import customized points of interest with the help of Garmin's free POI Loader software. For instance, you can upload safety cameras or school zones, and then receive a warning if you are traveling too fast in these areas. In addition, an optional proximity-alert feature notifies you of upcoming custom POIs. Maps are displayed on the i3's 32,000-color, sunlight-readable TFT, which includes a backlight for difficult lighting conditions. Motorists even have the choice of multiple perspectives--either a 3-D mapping angle or an overhead bird's-eye view. For added convenience, drivers can power the unit with either two AA batteries (six hours, typical use) or the included 12-volt adapter cable.

The StreetPilot i3 measures 3 by 2.74 by 2.15 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

Couldnt believe the price as have preciously refused to consider paying more than £200 for sat nav and preferd free printed directions from internet

other reviews helped decision when i saw advertised elsewhere

Can only say if this is bottom of the range then top must actually drive you there itself

    cant fault at all

No set up time - works fine out of box

full postcode plus extras pre porgrammed

i have been to and would recommend garmin website as mentioned in other reviews to download update and 'extras' which include speed camera postions worth getting end up with everything you could need attraction in the uk
    (hotels/petrol/cinema/theatre/hospitals/museums/bank ATM's/swimming pools/pubs/football grounds and much more)

even speed limit changes beep at you if your going too fast with update (though can be annoying) it does all i hoped and more

is good with alternate routes which is very handy

have tried to fool - not always knows every short cut (Im in west london)
can take a minute or 2 to adjust if go 'off route' but will catch up eventually - if unsure i pull over and wait!

can change view to suit dependant on tbe journey

have had a month and nothing i can think of that i could need it doesnt do - just clip on and off (i have next to rear view mirror with no intrusion - is tiny)

i even had a tyre problem last week and it had the nearest kwik fit in the memory and took me there!

very clear screen day and night

can completely recommend - can't see why anyone would want pay more

I have been looking at Satnav units for a while but I really didn't want to spend more than £200.00, absolute upper limit. This meant that the Tom Tom and other more popular brands were excluded. I opted for the Garmin I3 (had it for 3 mths now) not just for the price but also it's compact design. I purchased this unit [...] as I was told it was to be discontinued. This meant I bought an ex display model fully loaded with UK and European maps [...] !

I didn't want a "plasma screen" on my wind screen, so the size of this unit is perfect. The voice directions are very clear and volume wise very very good except you have a boom box in your boot at it's loudest then you probably need an Audiologist.

Recalculation is very quick and precise and the unit can be easily stored away in the glove box or bag.. it's very handy.

Getting a signal does take a couple of minutes but most units are the same. Paying an extra £150 plus to get a signal 30sec faster didn't add up to me. when you do get a signal it stays locked to it. I have driven through tunnels and only lose signal long after entry.

There are more sophisticated units out there but if you're like me, not on the road all the time and not using it for business ,I struggle to justify paying so much when I know a unit this price exist and works so well. Whether you're visiting the odd distant relative in Scotland or just watching it work as you do the same usual journey again and again you can't go wrong with this.
Add this unit to your short list first and look into it then you can try something else if you wish.

100% Accuracy so far. It does the basic things very well, getting from A to B without the bells and wistles. You can download safety camera locations and Points of interest but this unit was already preloaded with so much. However make sure you always have batteries in the unit as a backup so you don't depend entirely on the external power source, just incase you accidentally unplug it from it's power point directions aren't lost. I use rechargables.

    In 3 words

Economy - The best priced unit out there for me
Effectiveness - It does exactly as you intend
Efficiency - Why pay more for the same function

Top marks on all 3. What a find [...] ! Highly recommended! Hurry before stocks run out.

Why pay more for other units?. You get a colour 3d or 2d display, that switches itself between day and night mode. Full post code searches, and POIs included. I have downloaded speed and red light cameras, and other POIs. Very accurate and superfast recalculating if you take a detour. Sat lock is rock solid. Download the latest firmware from Garmin as they have fixed the problem where, when you switched on the car ignition it would lose your current journey. The small screen size is immaterial when driving, and in fact is a bonus as you can leave it hidden, stuck behind your mirror, or take it off the mount and slip it in your pocket. No touch screen?, irrelavent. The only downside is no charging from the car or usb socket, but in daily use it is not an issue. In fact the rechargable batteries I use last longer than the one in the Tom Tom or Navman, so if I were to unplug it and take it for a walk I'm better off with the I3.
