This is a great idea i think, specially for triathletes like me.

bike mount - great - very secure - it has never fallen off on me yet and it saves me getting a big white watch mark !! However, in a hurry - i still have trouble getting the garmin out of the clip - maybe its just a nack i havent got quite yet.

Wrist strap - FAB! all my triathlon prayers answered - i can leave the loop threaded and slip it on my wrist as i run out of transition, however i dont think this would work with a bloke with big wrists - you may have to thread and go, so to speak. It also solves the sweaty wrist interfering with the battery problem, as the strap/ mount is backed so the unit does not touch your skin.

all in all great purchase in my opinion, making the garmin even more versatile and easy to transfer between sports, specially in a race situation

Excellent 30 Oct 2009
By Fiddler
I saw some negative reviews of this product but fortunately was not put off. It is very well designed and for me it is how this watch should come as default. I will simply not use any of the original plastic straps again. The substantial velcro strap is easy to use and suits a watch of this size - it just looks and feels right. The bike mount is very nice, light and clean to use. The unclipped watch also fits more neatly into the interface unit for charging/computer than it did with the plastic straps attached.

Now that I have used this equipment both over the winter and now the summer I can comment better. It is an absolute miracle that I haven't either lost or broken my Forerunner. The unit fell off my wrist when skiing. Fortunately I was standing still at the time as saw it on the ground. Secondly, last week I was cycling and after 9km of descent on the bike I spotted that my Forerunner was missing. Climbing about a kilometer back up the hill I found it still in the middle of the road and working. Next time it bounced off going over a speed bump and then I spotted that the edge of the plastic retaining lip of the clip is broken - despite never being abused. The concept here is great but I couldn't honestly advise anyone to buy this now. Sorry.

I bought one of these as I've just got into cycling and running and love tracking my fitness, routes etc on the forerunner. I found it a pain using the forerunner on my wrist when cycling as I kept having to lift my arm off the handlebars to check the metrics. I also found the strap to be a little uncomfortable on the rubber strap which comes by default with the Forerunner 305, however with this quick release kit both my issues have been resolved.

The quick release kit attaches quite easily to the handlebars of the bike with two cable ties (supplied), this gives quite a secure fit providing you tighten up as much as you can before trimming the tie down to size.

In order to be able to use this release kit, you need to remove the normal rubber straps from the watch and you replace the pins in the watch with the new ones supplied. This is all very easy to do as Garmin provide a simple tool in the box. It takes no more than a minute to do this and isn't really that fiddly providing you don't let the new sprung pins jump off on to the floor where you can't find them again (luckily you get several spare ones in the box too in case you can't find them :) nice work Garmin!).

Once you've replaced the straps, you can then use the included new wrist strap which uses Velcro rather than rubber with holes, this means you can get that perfect size on your wrist, and actually makes it a lot easier sharing the forerunner with my girlfriend who has much smaller wrists, as previously we needed to switch the straps each time to the smaller ones, when she wanted to use the forerunner. The velcro strap is also a lot softer and doesn't rub during long runs.

Switching between the bike and the wrist strap is all very easy thanks to the way the clips are designed.

A good piece of kit and I would recommend for anyone who both runs and cycles.

Bike or run, swap in seconds
I am pleased with this. No complaints so far. Wearing the watch on the wrist is more adjustable and therefore more comfortable using the Velcro strap. Read more

Good piece of kit.
No issues at all and a big improvement over the watch band that it comes with. No issues with the watch coming loose from the clip.

Perfect for training, but not for racing
I would have happily given this item 5 stars if the strap were longer, and perhaps if it had something on the end of it to keep it from coming completely undone (please take note... Read more
