Garmin Mobile XT is a unique, all-in-one software solution that turns GPS enabled smartphones into turn-by-turn navigators. The navigation software and detailed mapping are all preloaded on a microSD card (with miniSD and standard SD card converter). Just plug it into your phone and you’re ready to navigate — on foot or in your car.
There are no subscription fees or additional equipment required and the GPS works anywhere, including areas outside of wireless network coverage.
Once the Garmin Mobile XT card is inserted in your compatible phone, you’ll be greeted with Garmin’s intuitive “where to?” and “view map” welcome screen. With just a few screen or button taps, you can easily route to a street address or choose from millions of points of interest, including restaurants, hotels, ATMs and gas stations. Garmin Mobile XT automatically calculates the fastest or shortest route and provides turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions along the way while showing a 3D moving map on your phone’s display. If you miss a turn, Garmin Mobile XT will automatically calculate a new route. I bought this software for my Nokia 5800 phone. After having to upgrade the software out of the the box via the Garmin website to supposedly get it to work with the Nokia 5800, it didn't. After struggling to get hold of Garmin product support for some time and then exchanging several e-mails with them, I have been told to send it back! Not impressed as I needed this SAT NAV software for a long road trip I am doing now and am now going to have to do it without any SAT NAV software!

I had read some good and some bad reviews for the Garmin on N96. The offical web site shows that it is not compatible, however I found some instructions on upgrading the software provided on the chip. These were a bit fiddley but once I had done them correctly, the software works like a dream with the whole of Europe covered. Also beware buying second hand or copied chips as Garmin won't help you if you get into difficulty - also the maps may be out of date.
So in summary the N96 is a bit fiddley to use anyway so if you have mastered this then you should have no problem with the Garmin XT, however if you are struggling already with the N96 then don't drive yourself crazy trying to upgrade the Garmin XT - buy a new phone that works with the XT out of the box.

For - works on Nokia E75, just put the card in the phone it installs & goes, covers whole of Europe, mapping seems OK, its fairly cheap + no ongoing costs, can lend card to friends if they need to navigate, uses internal GPS fine
Against - 2GB card has very little space left on it & you can't transfer to a bigger card so either lose most of your storage or have to carry 2 cards etc.
Biggest problem is will not connect to Garmin server so do not get POI, traffic etc. etc which was why I bought it. Garmin tech support are no help at all promise to ring back & don't as such can't really recommend this product
