Adventure further with your Garmin Montana GPS handheld by taking your next trip out on the water. This navigator has been built tough – it’s UVA/B resistant and IPX7 waterproof – so why not push it to the extreme by navigating on the water?

This sturdy and secure marine mount extends the functionality of your Montana by giving you the capability to affix it to your boat – for reliable navigation out on the water. This purpose-designed Garmin accessory holds your Montana strongly and securely on the boat for peace of mind it will hold fast regardless of weather and sea conditions. And the splash-proof unit means a bit of sea spray or drizzle won't pose a threat.

But beyond the capabilities of a standard mount, an integral power lead means Montana is powered and charges up while it’s on the dock. This makes it reliable regardless of the battery level at the start of your journey and it recharging in readiness for your onward adventure at the same time.

This complete kit for taking your navigation on the water also include anti-glare screen protectors – for optimum visibility out at sea and to safeguard your Montana touchscreen against the inevitable knocks, scratches, dust and dirt that come from accompanying you on all your adventures.

The unit as a permanent stand alone works well and is designed to be permanently fixed to a vessel. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that I carry this unit onto different vessels when instructing, so being able to have some interchangeability with a suction cup accessory (which is supplied with the automotive unit) and a cigar adaptor for just power if the NMEA interface is not used or not available. I have the automobile adaptor but the suction cup is not modular and cannot be used with the marine interface. I would definitely recommend it as a permanent fixture..... but would you use such a small unit as as a main GPS and chart plotter?

Perfect in every way., does what it's designed for. The key is a bit small, but stops someone just grabbing the sat.

A great marine mount for the Montana 600 27 July 2012

I have a couple of boats in different places and needed a new gps for both of them. One boat had an old mounted gps that gave up the ghost and for the other I used a battery-powered Garmin Map 76S with a small B&W screen. Changing batteries and keeping enough charged, rechargeable batteries was a pain. Since I wanted a portable gps with a large color display and touch screen, I opted for the Montana 600. I also wanted to avoid the hassle of changing batteries (the 600 really goes through batteries if constantly used), so I purchased a Garmin Marine Mount w/ Power Cable for each boat.

The mount is easy to install and connect to the power source and it really works slick. The mount holds the unit in landscape orientation and offers both vertical and horizontal movement to adjust the gps to any position for viewing. It is easy to adjust, but the tension adjustment in both horizontal and vertical postion prevents the unit from moving on it's own due to rough conditions or accidental bumps.

The Montana is mounted by aligning the plates with the pins and pushing the upper part of the Montana into a spring-loaded latch that snaps into place when the Montana is seated correctly. This latch securely holds the gps in place on the mount; removal of the gps is easily and quickly accomplished by pushing the latch and leaning the Montana forward and out of the mount.

Power is provided to the unit through a set of brass (?) pins on the mount and flat (brass?) plates on the mount. The mount's power cable has the normal bundled set of wires w/fuse for Garmin gps which includes a NMEA out for the marine radio or for serial/usb connectors for a computer or other electronics. The mount's cable can either be attached to a constant power source or source with on/off switch. The Montana turns own when placed in the mount with constant power and turns on/off with the switchable source. The Montana does provide the option for remaining on or turning off in "x" seconds when the power is turned off or the Montana is removed from the cradle. The Montana Li-ion battery pack is kept fully charged while in the cradle. The mount has a "rubber" cover that is attached to the mount with a loop and can be placed on the mount to protect the brass pins when the Montana is removed.

The only negative thing about the mount is that the power cable can not be disconnected from the mount. This makes it difficult to remove the mount during the off season when the boat isn't in use. This exposes the mount to long periods of UV rays which have a tendency to destroy plastic. The mount makes no claim for UV resistance so I have no idea how long the mount will last when constantly exposed to the sun. I have a method where I can remove the panel the mount is attached to and place it out of the sun during layup. The power and audio cable requires the drilling of or use of an existing, large diameter hole due to the fuse and dual cable combination. If the power/audio cable were easily detachable from the mount, sun exposure and cable location would not be of problems.

If you want to use one of the newer, touchscreen Montana GPS' for marine use, I highly recommend using this mount.

I have installed this mount on 2 UTV's that we own and there is no better mount that I have seen. It holds the Montana GPS firmly and securely over very rough terrain. You never have to worry about the battery going dead because it is constantly charging.
